!! Exciting New Cache Series!!

“COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST”

The Colorado Spirit Quest is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural and mountain communities across Colorado.  This series will introduce you to many of them.

The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries and tombstones.

COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST is not affiliated with any other ‘Spirit Quest’ group.  Special thanks and credit are given to SixDogTeam who started the Indiana Spirit Quest in 2004. The idea has rapidly spread into many states.

The CSQ endeavor is an enormous and relentless task.  It cannot be accomplished by just one or two people.  This project will only flourish if there is a multitude of volunteer cachers  willing to place these caches.

After locating the cache container, take some time to reflect back on the lives of those pioneers and the effort it took to make Colorado such a great state.

If you are interested in joining the “Walking Through History Clan” contact may be made by sending an e-mail to the owner of “Colorado Spirit Quest #1 – Mo untain Passage”.  Use the ‘Send Message” link at the center of the page of their profile.

Each person that places a CSQ cache is responsible for its maintenance.

REMEMBER:

If you are APPREHENSIVE about cemeteries – AVOID this series.

The cache container is a decon container.  You will not need to enter the cemetery to find the cache but it may be easier.

Finding your way to this cemetery may be the toughest part of the challenge.  From the entrance at N38 20.295 W103 21.369, it is a 1.2 mile drive one way down a weed choked dirt road.  Part way there, you will come to the end of a fence line and a sign partially buried in the weeds will direct you to continue along the connecting fence line.  This section had weeds that were the better part of 4' tall.

The oldest headstone in the cemetery dates to 1914. There is one very nice stone for an airman who died in WWII while serving with the 8th Air Force.

Neat place! Would love to know why it’s way out here!??! No problems on our trip out and back! Easy drive even for a rental car! Came to get this county in the challenge! The log hasn’t been signed since 2016! Thank you for another great CSQ! Love old cemeteries!

We left our motel in Alamosa this morning and continued our trek eastward. It was a beautiful day for driving and caching as we cached our way to Oakley, KS. We found quite a few interesting caches along the way and had just one DNF. We hope to be home by Tuesday evening.

This was more of an adventure than we anticipated. We followed the road until it became totally obliterated with tumble weeds. From there we had to go a little cross country. The cache was a quick find. We signed the log and replaced the cache as we found it. We took a different way back, but it was not a lot better.

Thanks

Well that was an adventure. We found the cache with no problems. However, the road disappeared so we went cross country. Both going in and out. Very thankful for Brian’s truck. And Brian. TFTC.

Wow. I see why this cache is so lonely. I would not recommend this road if it's muddy. I altered my usual route to Wichita so I could grab some CSQ caches. I searched the obvious spot but couldn't find anything in the overgrown weed patch. I had a small camo duct taped jar in the truck so I dropped it at the obvious spot. In all honesty I could have missed the original in the waist high weeds. So if anyone finds the original please remove my replacement. I'll post photos of the weeds later. Thanks for another CSQ cache.

I love the Spirit Quest caches. I would not drive a 2 wheeled vehicle back there.

Mommy and Daddy have been carrying me with them to hunt caches ever since I got out of the hospital after being born and I keep seeing new and exciting things. This time it is a big trip from Tennessee to GeoWoodstock 14 and back. Thank you for hiding this and giving my parents, Monkeybrad and Scoot the Frog and the rest of Team STFU, a reason to show me more of this big world.
