!! Exciting New Cache Series!!

“COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST”

The Colorado Spirit Quest is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural and mountain communities across Colorado.  This series will introduce you to many of them.

The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries and tombstones.

COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST is not affiliated with any other ‘Spirit Quest’ group.  Special thanks and credit are given to SixDogTeam who started the Indiana Spirit Quest in 2004. The idea has rapidly spread into many states.

The CSQ endeavor is an enormous and relentless task.  It cannot be accomplished by just one or two people.  This project will only flourish if there is a multitude of volunteer cachers  willing to place these caches.

After locating the cache container, take some time to reflect back on the lives of those pioneers and the effort it took to make Colorado such a great state.

If you are interested in joining the “Walking Through History Clan” contact may be made by sending an e-mail to the owner of “Colorado Spirit Quest #1 – Mo untain Passage”.  Use the ‘Send Message” link at the center of the page of their profile.

Each person that places a CSQ cache is responsible for its maintenance.

REMEMBER:

If you are APPREHENSIVE about cemeteries – AVOID this series.

The cache container is a camoed 35mm film canister.  You will not need to enter the cemetery to find the cache.

This cemetery contains about 50 headstones with the oldest being about 1912.  The day we were there a fair number of people from town were gathered next door at what appears to be the local gathering place and they were all interested in what we were doing.  It was a very slow day in Karval.

Fun day of caching with LostinDenver and WindAtMyBack. Headed east hitting Limon, Hugo and Aroya. Got a total of 38 caches. It was a little hotter than we expected out on the plains but nothing unbearable. Naturally we didn't get as many as we wanted (do we ever?) but that just means we will have to make another trip ! Found on ground . replaced it a bit higher.

Today I hooked up with @WindAtMyBack and @2lablovers to load up our covered wagon and head east. My covered wagon is a newer model, the FJ Cruiser made by Toyota. From Aurora we headed toward Limon and then migrated south and further east. It was a productive day. We managed to avoid bad weather (only a little sprinkling). Along the way we saw at least 15 hawks, a burrowing owl den, a burrowing owl, many other types of birds and one snake. Unfortunately this bullsnake crossed the road at the same time as a vehicle and we only found him lying there, motionless. We also checked out Arroyo, a ghost town. We also saw a bunch of prairie dogs, and most importantly, lots of caches! We found 38 out here and had a great time. Before ending our day we had visited Hugo, Limon, Boyero, and Bennett. Thanks for the fun!
These small cemeteries are sad. Sad not only because it represents the burial places of the dead, but also because it feels so lonely and unvisited here. TFTC!

We were on a QUEST today to shorten our list of Colorado Spirit Quest caches still needed to meet the requirements for a challenge cache. We didn't get them all, but found a bunch and had a great time exploring eastern Colorado and its history. Thanks to all the COs who have placed and maintained these caches. This cache was a quick find and we replaced it as found. Met a very friendly Yellow Lab laying in the middle of the street!

I enjoy my holidays with FWIA in Olney Springs. Very nice weather for caching today, so we did this little stretch with the Benchmarks and some Cemetery Caches. There was no container at GZ, so we did a replacement. TFTC and best regards, Izzifix
