Cowboy had been punching cows all day for a local rancher in Dolores. Cowboy and his horse were plumb tuckered out. He wanted to visit an old girlfriend in Cortez, but it was already near dark and riding at night could be dangerous. Cowboy pulled up his horse, removed the saddle, and other gear. He hobbled old Rocky and said, "Boy, I am too tired to make a fire or cook. We will have to dry camp tonight". He found some sparse grass for Rocky to graze, while Cowboy took out some beef jerky, and week old biscuits for dinner. Cowboy threw down a blanket on his saddle for his bed and pillow, and was soon sound asleep. The girlfriend would have to wait until the morning.
