Cowboy and Shane were following the Dolores River downstream . Their horses stopped cold with their heads and ears focused at a thrashing noise up the slope in the timber. The riders decided to investigate and rode up the hill. A short distance away they saw a young Blue Roan horse struggling to get free. His foot was wedged tightly between two downed spruce trees.

Shane spoke up and said, "I studied to be a vet. Let me handle it". Shane took a large bandana out of his saddlebags and speaking softly to the horse he wrapped it around the horse's head making a blind. Cowboy tied his rope to a large log that was holding the back leg. The leg was raw and bleeding from the struggle to get free. Shane took out a package containing pine tar and medicinal herbs and rubbed it over the wounds. Cowboy spurred his horse and the log pulled away. The roan jumped up and ran downstream and headed for a cabin and corrals. A pretty young gal ran out and hugged the horse with tears in her eyes. She looked up at the two cowboys and said, "Smoky broke out his corral two days ago and disappeared. . Thank you with all my heart for bringing him back to me". And then she gave each cowboy a big hug and kiss.. Cowboy, looking embarrassed said, "Aw shucks Miss. It twern't nothin". Then the cowboys mounted up and started to ride away when the pretty gal invited them to stay for dinner, an offer they couldn't resist.

Not sure what we were looking for on this search. My GPSr put us in an area that gets high water every spring. I wonder if my GPSr does not like Cowboy's coordinates. I did find another of Cowboy's caches and only after reading that another finder's coordinates were way off from the cache. Mine was over 15 feet off from the cache and also down in the floodplain. So, I may give this one another try soon with that in mind. It also would help to know what kind of cache container was hidden as there is so much trash in the area.
