Glory Hole Park is located on the site above what once was the Argenturm-Juaniata mine. The name Glory Hole refers to the sinkhole, but we don’t know who first called it that and the exact background of the name. The pond at the park is what remains of the large sinkhole that formed in 1918, when a mining stope in the mine tunnel beneath the ground collapsed. The hole formed under the tracks of the Colorado Midland Railroad and, rumor has it, that an entire train full of ore disappeared into the ground on that day in 1918 and remains buried there to this day.

As for the cache, you ae looking for a magnetic, log only container. Watch for MUGGLES and BYOPen!

This was my first time in Aspen and my first geocache in Pitkin County. I’d already been here a few days but not had a chance to make it out on my own to find this one. I spent a lot of time searching the other begin until I saw this one and then I made fairly quick work of it. Thanks for placing this one here and for the Geo fun
