Some people need a cache to be their excuse to explore just a little further.
This cache was placed on a morning hike after an overnight at Mohawk Lake. My friend and his family invited me along for the night and I then encouraged an exploration to the top of the valley.
The late morning thunderstorm scared the S*#@ out of them and encouraged a quick placement. So the cache should be an easy find once you get there.
I have to admit that this is one of the most beautiful places in Colorado that I have been to so far. I hear that there is a lot of snow most of the year so that might limit access. When you do go bring your camera and a fishing pole, all the lakes are littered with trout.

I love this area and was glad I finally had time to get up here. I have hiked Atlantic and Pacific peaks but we did it from the valley to the south. It was interesting to see Pacific from this point of view. Crystal is on my to do list but it might have to wait until next year. The weather is turning and the aspens are starting to change too. That's quite the erosion slope... Thanks for the cache, it's a beautiful valley!

I have to agree with Adrenalin Junkie, this is one of the most beautiful areas I've hiked in Colorado. I loved the waterfalls and being able to see the mountains and the sky reflected in the lakes. Even the short climb up the rocks at the end didn't seem too bad...I just followed ernie66, the mountain goat, to the cache site. The container was in good shape, so that critter obviously hadn't found a way to get into this one. Although we could hear the thunder all around us, we never saw any lightning, but got caught in the graupel for about 10 minutes on the way back down. Lots of families and other large groups walking up to the lower lake and the Continental Falls, all mostly unprepared for sudden changes in the weather and a few gasping for breath while they asked us how much further to the lake. Little did they know how the beauty continued past Mohawk lake. We probably should have waited until the higher cache was published, but it will be a good excuse for another hike up there.

A very beautiful hike today with estes01 up the valley past a dozen glacial lakes and seas of alpine wildflowers. The lower section of the trail to Mohawk Lakes was busy but the population thinned after that. We clocked over 7 miles round trip from the Mohawk Lake Trail 4WD parking lot. Lots of wildlife out today - mountain goats, marmots, pikas, chipmunks, many different birds, and some mosquitoes. Thank you for bringing us here!

Have no fear the cache is back in order and no one is loosing their minds. the log book and all the contents were out of the container and the container was deep in the hole. It seems that a rodent of sorts had been clawing at the tabs and managed to open it. So I replaced it with a different container and reused the original container to place another cace at Pacific Lake. Enjoy.
