Leroux Creek Series #1- The Beginning
***IMPORTANT INFORMATION: PLEASE READ ALL THE WAY TO THE END***
This series of caches, located West of Hotchkiss, CO will take you from Highway 92 up to Bailey Reservoir with the majority of the caches being on National Forrest land. All of the caches can be accessed with a high-clearance or 4-wheel drive vehicle in the summer. A car can access most of them, but the higher you get, the rougher and rockier the road gets. The road is gravel most of the way and can accommodate two lanes of traffic most of the time. However, please use caution when driving on the road and look out for traffic. As always, come prepared! A good portion of the caches are located in the mountains. Plan for all kinds of weather/situations and pack your clothing, gear, food, water, etc. accordingly. The first six caches may or may not be accessible in the winter. After the sixth cache, the road is only accessible by snowmobile during the winter months. I recommend only attempting this series when there is no snow. During the warmer months, this area has a ton to offer. In addition to caching, there is opportunities for fishing, hiking, 4-wheeling, sight-seeing, wildlife viewings and good ol’ fashion fresh air and sunshine! I hope you enjoy the area as much as I do!
This cache is located just as the pavement ends. From here on out, the road will be gravel. There is ample parking on the side of the road. There can be traffic at the intersection at times, so just wait for the cars to pass before hunting.
Happy Hunting!
Congrats to nsturchio on the FTF!
