Our 5th cache of the day. We are spending the Labor Day weekend in the Leadville area. This morning, we began by driving to Independence Pass. Arrived early before the crowds. After visiting the observation platform, we then began hiking up to the summit of this unnamed peak. The hike turned out to be one of our favorites just because no one else was along the trail, and we were able to enjoy the summit alone. Amazing views in the mid-morning before the rain moved back in. Definitely a steep climb. We had 2.8 miles round-trip from the car, with 1500' of elevation gain. Found the replacement container at the summit. Many thanks.

After cheering on my friend as she finished the Leadville 100 this morning, I headed towards Independence Pass to get the other caches I had targeted for the weekend. Wow, what a fun climb! Loved the views from the top!! I found pieces of the urn that was mentioned in a previous log, but after 30 mins of thorough searching (and recognizing that no cacher had logged it in 2 years and it was apparently obvious enough to have been found by accident that time), I left a replacement where my GPS and phone both zeroed out. Pics sent to the CO - I hope this is okay...this is just too great of a spot to lose! Thank you for the motivation to make this very enjoyable hike! No better way to get your day started than to stand on top of the world (well, above 13,500' at least) before 8 AM!

Our first geocache find, and it was totally random. Great spot, the views are the real treasure.
