This family-friendly cache is a lock-and-lock placed near the San Isabel Scout Ranch off Hwy 165 north of San Isabel. Swag includes jungle animals, sea creatures, a truck, and a Squinkie.
This is one of our favorite places to walk our Basset hounds, following an old abandoned road through the trees along the ridge top overlooking the road to the scout camp. Several rock formations along the way offer nice views of the surrounding countryside, including Snowslide and a glimpse of the high plains. Our hounds love to climb the rocks, thus the name of the cache. To get to the cache, turn off Hwy 165 at the San Isabel Scout Ranch sign (Forest Rd 380), and follow the road until it becomes FR 317 and ends at a dispersed camping area (don't turn right to the scout camp). Follow the trail through the camping area up to the ridge top and turn right to find the cache. If people are camped in the camping area, you can park along the road and bushwhack to the top of the ridge, or you can park at the small parking area across from the Wachob Trail trailhead. Motorized vehicles are not allowed on the ridge where the cache is located.
Congrats to Keepsake03 for FTF!
