Dogs  Scenic view  Significant hike  Cliff / falling rocks  Parking available

This is the 40th in my series of Trail Mix caches all made out of Trail Mix jars.  It is hidden in an interesting location just off of the Saddleback Mountain Trail.

There is a nice choice of loops along the way that you can use to find this and the other caches in this area. From the trailhead it's a climb of more than 800 feet which is pretty steep for a one mile hike to the top.  I hiked the steeper route up and the less steep route back down - it was easier on the knees that way. When this cache was placed there were three other caches on the mountain and I found two of them.  I hid this one along with a buddy cache called Gilligan.

There are some good views along the way and I enjoyed them all by myself.  Although there was another car parked at the trailhead, I did not see anyone else on the entire hike.

Note that there is a significant drop off near the cache but there is no climbing involved.

 Hints

In a depressed area covered with rocks. Yeah, it's a rock pile hide but not one of "those" rock pile hides so it's not too bad.

Had a fun time out this morning exploring. I was very happy to find a trail mix that was fairly close to me! I still have a boat load of your trailmixes to do - but they all take a considerable drive. I was the only one on the trail, and there weren't any other cars at the traillhead. Thanks

The smoke had cleared enough today that I could get a hike in---and had the WHOLE MOUNTAIN to myself (love that)! Thanks for giving me a reason to take this cool trail today and TFTC BigSmile.

Hit the trail with "animjason", on a hot and hazy day - we walked up the hill, and then back down - this was the third of four geocaches that we found along the way. TN-LN-SL. Thanks !

Main target of the day with Bhob. Sadly no BearAdair today, teething grumpies, so we spared her/us the hike.

Beautiful spot. Want to see this view again without the smoke. Traded trackables, and off to sassydil's cache. Miss her.

Gets a fave.

Thanks cajrrman! Logged Trail Mix #40: Saddleback from a ninth galaxy using c:geo!

FTF at 11:35 am! I saw this one publish and decided to take an early lunch to see I could beat the other hounds to it! This is only a 15 minute drive from my office, and I hit the ground running! After a very steep climb, and a little bushwacking I arrived at the overlook and made the quick find! I stamped my name took some pictures, and celebrated the fact that for a very short period of time i am the only person to have found all 40 Trail Mix caches! I grabbed one of the TB's and will move it along. Thanks Cajrrman for all the fun, I hope you are not done!! Awarding a favorite as soon as possible! TFTC!
