Scenic view  Available during winter  Parking available  Drinking water nearby  Public restrooms nearby  Short hike (less than 1km)

Prominently on display atop Lookout Mountain while traveling along I-70 in Golden sits the shrine to Mother Cabrini.

Mother Cabrini, aka Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, is the first American citizen saint and the patron saint of immigrants.

Regardless of your religious affiliation, the grounds have many peaceful areas to enjoy and offer exceptional views of the Rockies and downtown Denver.

The Shrine

The shrine is free to the public and open 7 days a week, but only available from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm so plan accordingly. Once at the parking area, you will then need to walk 372 steps to get to the shrine itself, and you are not allowed to climb the steps after 5:30 pm. Handicap access is available (inquire at the gift shop one hour prior to closing).

Logging Requirements

Find two pieces of information, both 9-letter words:
  1. Locate the pink bench directly behind the shrine. The surname on that bench is XXXXXXXXX
  2. Each step has a sponsor noted by a small plaque. The last word on the 372nd (final) step is YYYYYYYYY

The quickest way to verify your answers is to send an email with your caching name in either the subject or the body of the message to XXXXXXXXX.YYYYYYYYY@gmail.com. If your answers are correct, you should get an automatic response giving permission to log the cache. If you're caching in a group, feel free to include multiple caching names in a single message.

Alternatively, you may send your answers to me through the geocaching.com message center. This will also suffice if Gmail does not send an immediate response.

Logs for which an email or message has not been received within 2 weeks will be deleted, sorry. Feel free to post as many photos as you want, but please do not post spoilers.

Thirty plus years in Denver and this is our first time here. It was a beautiful morning ... we enjoyed the climb and the view. Thanks for making this a virtual cache! Adding a favorite point. We got the email confirming that our answers were correct.

Email sent. I am feeling that six mile hike yesterday. But a great area to visit. Geocaching just brought me to a place I would never visit otherwise since I am not Catholic. Very neat and awesome area, gets a FAV. Thank you so much.

Uciphd said my answers are correct. That was a nice work out (372 steps) but worth it to see the shrine and the views. Thanks uciphd

On a fun caching trip through Colorado and Utah with Huff-Suter. This was our first stop of the trip. Interesting virtual; Huff-Suter submitted our answers. Saw an elk here.

What an awesome site to see. Made the drive to the top and even got to see elk rnning around in the area. If you can not walk the steps..you can drive to the top..just go inside and ask for the keys to the gates.

So, funny story! We walked all the way to the top and I got distracted by dogs! Totally forgot to get the answers, halfway down I looked at my husband and said “Oh crap!” I forgot there was a virtual up there. So if you are going to walk all the way up there don’t forget part of the reason you went. Beautiful day to be out and about.

It was a cold walk up the steps today, but I enjoyed the art along the way and the views from the top were amazing. Had never been up there before, so it was well worth the walk. Thanks for the interesting virtual!

We dropped by after visiting the nearby earthcache. What a peaceful spot with wonderful views. Hiking up the 372 steps at 7200ft, got us breathing heavy. The altitude sure hits you. We got the required info and then got approval to log via email. Thanks for the cache!
