Not Available during winter  Short hike (less than 1km)

Cowboy wanted to visit Alta, CO so he saddled up his horse and headed toward Telluride.  He went to Alta and saw where all that was left were beautiful shells of buildings that were once used by  gold miners starting in the late 1800's.
The cache is located near the intersection of Hwy 145 and CR 64F.  It is near the head of a trail.  The cache is a small bottle but hidden out of site in an object that needs inspection to be found.  The cache is for those who possess good intuitive searching skills.  Many will walk right over it without finding the cache. If you have time, be sure to drive up the road to see Alta. It is a rough road but many cars go there in good weather. Do not attempt in severe rainy or snowy weather as there are some narrow places in the road and it may be slick. 4WD is useful. Lots of marmots in the area.

OKLS1596 and I are traveling from Cortez, where we have spent several days, to Montrose, where we will spend a few more days. We are visiting National Park Service sites on this trip. Today we were stopped in traffic south of Rico while they had their 4th of July parade. It looks like they had a great celebration there! We stopped here because of the desirable D/T rating and also to log a find in San Miguel County. This one is in great shape!! TFTC!
