Cache is NOT at the posted coords – it is a good parking spot to start your search.
On Page 81 of John Fielder's "Colorado: 1870-2000" (the 1999 edition), there is a photo. Find that spot. Very near where the photo was taken, there is a healthy 7' tall, Ponderosa pine tree growing out of the rock. Look closely at that tree for the clue to the final.

The book is available at just about any library. It is jumbo-sized, so might be in a "Special Collections" area. It is very well-known, so the librarian can help.

There is a second option: In the upper right of the photo there is another tree. Look carefully near the roots.

Stopped by to check on this great cache we have had the privilege of adopting. Both Stage One containers are secure and have survived our crazy weather. Final is safe and dry.

Good day to do a little hiking in this area. We ended up doing more than we needed but exceot for the wind it was fun. We ended up finding alternate stage one and after the search for finding the spot where the photo was taken, finding the final was a brreze. TFTC Giving it a fav point.

This one has been on my short list for a long time, as I waited (and waited and waited) for the book to become available at the library. I've been #1 on the hold list for months?! So GoMRT shoots me a message recently and tells me that the book is just out in the open, coffee-table book style, in the library nearest my house. What?! Well, GoMRT and I had other hiking plans for today that fell through and I happened to be passing by this area on my way to & from the alternate hike I took. Ever the helpful assist, he met me here on my way back. He laughed as I looked for the new stage 1 and gave me purposefully bad feedback as I searched for the final. Geosenses (and following coordinates) soon yielded the cache in hand, despite his best efforts. We went back and spent quite a while looking for the original stage 1, but only found 2 lively little snakes. Super cool area, glad this letterbox was placed and has been maintained for over a decade! Thanks for the smiley :-)

We checked on both of the Stage One containers----both doing fine even with the crazy winter weather. Final stage is snug and safe. Happy Hoodoo Caching!

It was great to finish this one today. I started this quite awhile ago, but never got back up here with the picture. Today was the day; picture, waypoint, and final. Working through this one was a pleasure. Thanks to the cache owners that have adopted this one and kept it going.

I love these type of geocaches! You get to come see some really neat geological features in amongst the area we live.

Fortunately, right now, Costco has this book for sale. When I saw it there and remembered this geocache, I made sure to get to the page with the aforementioned photograph required to reference. I snapped my own photo of the photo on the cell phone and then promptly headed over to the park where you would find this geocache. Using some very obvious landmarks within the photograph, I found the reference point that is required for the final coordinates. Once I found the final coordinate set, I hopped over there and was able to get the smiley just as the sun was setting behind the Rampart Range.

Thank you for keeping this geocache alive and well for those of us who enjoy these types!

Hi - I got a copy of the book a couple years ago - just for caching, btw !!- did me a great service today. With an event happening down at CMSP, it was a chance for 9 types in a day! Got to love that zoo webcam BigSmile
This letterbox was a must as well, and the text accompanying the relevant photos led the way. I found the "upper right" necessities, and then a short time later applied that green Oregon stamp to the log. Thanks for # 6 of 9 today!!

We checked on both coordinate containers and they are still safely in place. For the first time since we adopted this cache, there is now a "hoodoo" stamp and ink pad in the final container for use in logging your letterbox. Happy caching!

Hiking Fool caches are always great finds. Now doubly so as we get the chance to remember a great cacher we loved and miss. Glad to finally get to see the cache I played tech support for as RPieperco played mountain goat. Very neat spot! Thanks for keeping this one going!

Thanks for the absolutely wonderful letterbox cache! I was passing by the area and saw this one. I've never been up here but when I saw the hoodoos passing and then this cache I just had to stop. Well I set out to the waypoint listed and took the appropriate path as described. I probably should have done my homework first. I was all over the place looking for the described location. I called up my good friend CrumbCrunchers and told her where I was. She had never done this cache before but was aware of it. Neither of us have been to the library to search for this. But with some internet sleuthing she was able to track down the needed information and sent me a picture. Some more searching and angle comparisons I found the spot. Shortly after I had the information to the final. Short hop and skip later I was signing the log. These places are like adult playgrounds for me! So much fun! Regretfully the rain came in and I headed back to the car. What a fun adventure and a great reminder of our lost friend and cacher Hiking fool. Thanks for taking care of this one Gampa and Gamma!

What an amazing cache! Took my family out to give this one a shot today and it turned into a very fun adventure! We spent a lot of time messing around on the hoodoos and trying to come up with the funniest picture! We finally got to the location of the cache and think we found the tree from the photo location, but couldnt find the clue. We were thankful for the alternate option and we were successful in finding the final shortly after! Thanks for maintaining this cache! One of my favorites!

The two clues (coordinates) to the final cache location are back in place. Please contact us if you have any problems with locating either of them or the final. Happy Hoodoo caching!
