This cache is the forth of
six in my #2 series of off-road caches located along Saxon Mountain
Road. This route runs for about 14 miles round trip starting
from Georgetown and winding to the summit of Saxon Mountain then
returning via the same route.
Cache
Information This cache is located at
the end of another narrow edgy section and there is a nice little
viewpoint where you can look down on the trail that you have just
climbed up. The cache is in the trees above the
viewpoint.

Rating/Description
My book rates this trail as easy but I don't agree with that
rating. I would say it is on the low end of moderate.
The trail is rocky/bumpy most of the way to the top. Give
yourself plenty of time and take it slow. In some areas the
trail is steep with a few narrow sections that are on the
edge. Most stock SUV type vehicles should have no trouble on
this trail. Disclaimer: You need to decide for yourself if it
is safe to make the trip in your vehicle. Note: ATV's are
allowed, but there is no staging area at the bottom, so you must
offload somewhere along the beginning of the trail.
Winter
Months
There is a gate near the bottom of the trail, so they may close
this trail in winter.
Time/Distance
The round trip trail is approximately 14 miles and should take
about 3 to 4 hours driving time. You will also need to
include time for finding the caches, exploring (make sure you check
out the old log cabins along the route), sight seeing, lunch,
etc. I suggest you have lunch at the summit where the last
cache in the series is located.
Trail
Waypoints
This route should be easy to navigate to the summit using the
caches in the series as your intermediate waypoints. There is
one extra waypoint provided with the first cache of this series,
Georgetown Lake View.

10/29/2016 By dndsterns Another fun one on a dirtbike
10/13/2016 By Back Country Horsemen Hike to this one is just over 4.5 miles of steady up and up took me 3 hours including cache stops. Much more difficult than a 2.5 terrain for sure. Since the next cache was much further up & I already had a blister this was my turn around point. Road seemed very difficult to drive to this point. We have access to a SUV but this road would be too difficult. I wonder what it's like coming from the east so I might be able to finish the series?
Are you feeling lucky?
Yes, this is the road! That boulder seems like it could fall at any time.
09/05/2015 By jpit Out for a fun day checking out the trails and some caches. Thought I would run down Saxon and then back up to get some caches on top and head down towards Lamartine Mine. Plus, Saxon is best run in the daylight, now. Since the bad rains and some rockslides in 2013, I would say this trail should be rated as difficult. Found this cache in great shape. Thanks!

06/23/2013 By oscarmikeUSMC The day started with OF Erad making the trek from Colorado Springs up to Centennial to meet up at my place. Once we got rolling we made our way up to the hills for some off road 4x4 caching in the Idaho Springs/ Georgetown area. Had a great time with OF Erad, who provided chow and a good running partner chasing caches. Thanks for putting this one out for all to enjoy. TFTC Semper Fi- OMUSMC
06/23/2013 By OF-Erad Spent the day on an excellent offroad adventure with "oscarmikeUSMC" (aka Gunny+1). His YOTA took this YODA to some very cool places today. Thanks for placing this cache for us to find! And a huge Thanks to Gunny for a great day! SL, TFTC!
