Restored railroad water tank on route to Alpine Tunnel
This is one of the old water tanks that supplied water for the steam engines enroute to the alpine tunnel. Restored in 1969, it was originally built in the early 1900's to replace the water tank destroyed in an avalanche further up the line.

Out with friends making a loop from Buena Vista, over Monarch Pass then Pitkin and back to BV via Hancock Pass a total of 145 miles. The lid had three holes from some critter, but contents are dry. TFTF

We were in the Jeep for the trip over Hancock Pass and back over Tincup Pass. It was a cool day, with a bit of drizzle, but we had a great time. I haven't been on these trails for nearly 30 years. I was happy that there were a number of caches on the route. Thanks for the Cache!
