Summary:

Discover and enjoy a portion of the Delta story in its murals

The wealth of murals in Delta, Colorado, created by local artists celebrates the heritage of this community.  Most are located along Main Street. This series is numbered in the order in which the murals were painted.

It all started in 1986 when the city was awarded funds for an urban renewal project.  A portion of these funds were set aside to begin the “mural project”.  The success of this project has led to the expansion of the Delta Public Art Committee which is currently continuing the mural project and initiating a new program for sculpture and other 3 dimensional media art in public places.

In this series of multi-caches, the coordinates given are a virtual (the mural) from which you will gather information to find the second stage which will contain the log to be signed.  The second stage has a connection to the first, perhaps only in the owners’ minds, but can you read our minds?

Not only an artistic interpretation of Colorado's varied wildflowers, but botanical study of the different types of wild flowers is presented in this mural. “Colorado Wildflowers” is painted on the north-facing wall of a Main Street building.  To best view mural, enter adjacent parking lot via Meeker Street through Senior Center parking lot directly east of mural.

Artist, Dennis Reynolds used a triptych presentation to depict three Delta County ecosystems - alpine mountain, Uncompahgre Plateau, and an arid setting when he painted this mural in 2002. Listed along the bottom of the mural are some of the wildflowers found in the three ecosystems of this mural.  See if you can identify them.

Chicory, Sunflower, Easter Daisy, Showy Milkweed, Wild Morning Glory, Bindweed, Gumweed, Violet Aster, Cat tails, Rabbit Bush, Water Lily, Rocky Mountain Iris, Mule Ears, Harebells, Fleabane, Columbine, Larkspur, Lupine, Indian Paintbrush, Dandelion, Fireweed, Aster, Golden Glow, Yucca, Claret Cup Cactus, Prickly Pear Cactus, Copper Mallow, S Lilly.

At the bottom of the mural each of these wildflowers are attached to a number, use these to calculate your second stage coordinates.

N=38 4 EasterDaisy . Gumweed Prickly Pear Cactus

W=Rabbit Brush 8 04.Showy Milkweed 4 Violet Aster

Stopped by to check this cache out, it was missing. That is like the third time due to all the muggles that congregate in the park area around so have hidden in a slightly different area of the structure making it much more difficult to spot and will up the hint significantly so that the difficulty stays the same. We want to thank MsHendrix for letting us know of the issue and will allow her to log a FIND as she would have found it easily if it had been in place. Visited a passel of JailBugs just in from the Sheriffs Jail house hotel in Phoenix AZ.

I'm editing this log to claim the find by permission of the CO. TFTC!

Well, yesterday I had good luck with another cache that hadn't been found in a while. Not so today. After I made the terrain rating much higher than the one reported and still came up empty, as I was leaving the cache, the people who...live?...around here were obviously disturbed by my presence and waiting for me to leave so that they could move in. As a cacher you can't win 'em all, but I would ask the CO to check up on this one. I was off to Montrose after this to find an easy one.

This morning's mission was to do all of the mural caches in Delta (plus any others we encountered along the way). We had a great time and really enjoyed the murals even though we had a couple of DNFs. Nice hide. SL. TFTC

Found a string of multi caches today, based out in Delta, Colorado. Wonderful multi's based on the murals in town. After work we popped up to Delta to log all the finals. Fun tour of town. SL. TFTC! Found with Pathfinder33.

This one is much smaller than we had in mind when we saw the small rating, it is more of a micro now, but was high and dry, so no complaints. Construction in the area will make this one fun getting to during the day with road crews working almost on top of cache location.

Out checking on a few of our caches needing help, visiting, retriviing and dropping TB's along the way. This park is a busy area for muggles and have already repleced cache twice as nearly impossible to make it completely invisible from all angles. Well, , , , , , we figured a way! Same location but totally different hand made on the spot replacement cache that will only be spotted by those looking for it. will now be more tricky to Bag the cache.

We came to Delta last year and decoded all of the COM series but had to come back to get to all the final spots. This is a great and creative series! We arrived on scene and were able to quickly find the log on the ground. We phoned the CO and were granted a find and left the log under a stone in the location described by Kekj. He will get out and replace the container soon.

Fun mural puzzles! As we were going to look at the mural the street was crowded with people. Someone pointed to a tall tree by the car was and we looked up to find a large bear up the tree! sl TFTC
