Delta, CO: City of Murals #4

Discover and enjoy a portion of the Delta story in its murals

The wealth of murals in Delta, Colorado, created by local artists celebrates the heritage of this community.  Most are located along Main Street. This series is numbered in the order in which the murals were painted.

It all started in 1986 when the city was awarded funds for an urban renewal project.  A portion of these funds were set aside to begin the “mural project”.  The success of this project has led to the expansion of the Delta Public Art Committee which is currently continuing the mural project and initiating a new program for sculpture and other 3 dimensional media art in public places.

In this series of multi-caches, the coordinates given are a virtual (the mural) from which you will gather information to find the second stage which will contain the log to be signed.  The second stage has a connection to the first, perhaps only in the owners’ minds, but can you read our minds?

This mural -"Fruit Growers Labels"- celebrates the fruit growing industry, which has flourished around Delta since its settlement.  The labels depicted come from all over the county- Eckert, Paonia, Cedaredge, Delta, Bridgeport, and Hotchkiss.  One of the largest murals in Delta, its bright colors and sharp lines appeal to both young and old.

Second stage coordinates:

If Columbine fruit label of Palmer and Company is from Cedaredge, N=38 44. 648

If Tom Tom Colorado Apples label is from Paonia, N=38 44.748

If the label that claims “The Apple That Made Delta County Famous” is Grizzly brand, N=38 44.848

If the Tomahawk Brand Apple label came from Bridgeport, W=108 04.543

If Red Mountain Fruit Ranch label came from Hotchkiss, W=108 04.553

If Thunder Mountain has been a label of Cedaredge Fruitgrowers, Inc.,W=108 04.563

Congratulation to $R for FTF

This morning's mission was to do all of the mural caches in Delta (plus any others we encountered along the way). We had a great time and really enjoyed the murals even though we had a couple of DNFs. Nice hide. SL. TFTC

Found a string of multi caches today, based out in Delta, Colorado. Wonderful multi's based on the murals in town. After work we popped up to Delta to log all the finals. Fun tour of town. SL. TFTC! Found with Pathfinder33.

Getting to this one with the road construction is interesting. The satellite image and what is actually on the ground are two different realities. We had to bob and weave through town to get to GZ, but quickly had it in hand once we were there.

We came to Delta last year and decoded all of the COM series but had to come back to get to all the final spots. This is a great and creative series! Initially thought the bypass might have rendered this one missing but the cache queen made the find when I couldn't.

The Ms. has been off to MN for class reunion picking up both a new state souvenir and TB. Just got back into town, needed a place to peg a passel of bugs to a map and also wanted to check that hide was secure, it is.
