Dogs  Scenic view  Not Available during winter  Cliff / falling rocks  Motorcycles  Quads  Off-road vehicles  Medium hike (1km-10km)

The cache is located on top of a 14er. Mt Antero is 14,269' tall with breathtaking views in every direction.
The closest town of any size is Buena Vista. From there go south on US HWY 285 to CR 162. Turn West and head toward Mt. Princeton Hot Springs/St. Elmo. The paved road will turn into dirt before you reach the Mt. Antero Trail Head.

The Mt. Antero 4WD road starts out bumpy but is wide and easy. You should be able to drive any kind of 4WD rig to at least tree line. Above tree line the road narrows with sections of shelf road where two vehicles cannot pass. Look ahead for vehicles in these areas and wait in a wide spot until the road is clear before you proceed. Use your own judgment on where to park to start your hike. Your equipment and off-road driving experience should determine the safe place for you to park. The narrow shelf road has a pucker factor of 5 stars.

From the hardcore parking spot the hike will be apx. 1/2 mile with apx. 500' elevation gain. The cache is a decon container with a FTF prize: A $15 pair of movie tickets and a custom made ceramic n0wae keepsake.

14ers.com and TrailDamage.com has more information to glean.

Looked all over good hint but could not find it Warm sunny day on the peak

We were expecting a cold, windy day considering how late it was in the season, but it ended up being a perfect day for a climb. Very icy conditions on the 4WD road meant an 8-mile hike in from CR292, but it was well worth it! Geocache is in good shape, though I didn't have a pen(cil) with me to put my name down. I have a pic of the container if the CO would like me to verify.

Travelinghiker, his Mom, and I had a long day hike along Little Browns Creek. We shared the summit with a couple on their honeymoon. So while they were enjoying their champagne we found the cache exactly like the hints describe. Removed the blow-pop sucker and put in a plastic airplane; don't want the marmots chewing the cache. TFTC.

Using the Little Browns Creek approach, my girlfriend and I summitted Mt Antero this morning. We figured it was better than hiking the 4wd road despite the extra length. Some cool highlights - I found two small pieces of aquamarine and I saw the filming of the TV show "Prospectors". My 18th 14er in the two summers I've been in Colorado. TFTC!

Need a writing tool. Lost pen in hike up and nothing in container. Great view.

Wow what a trip. Visiting Colorado for the week with the goal of a couple of 14ers (with a few 13s thrown in too). This was our record hike for the week - 20.4 miles round trip from our starting point to the east along 272 Browns Creek trailhead. We visited the falls and the lake on the way around the south side of Mt White. We had lunch on the saddle between Antero and White before beginning the final ascent.
By reaching the top, it was also my highest climb to date and most vertical gain in a day. Turns out the top was well guarded. We had a visit from a marmot, who hung around for most of the time we were there.

Our trip back to our vehicle was along Little Browns Creek, so saved us a bit of time on the return leg. spotted some sheep just before we hit the tree line.

This will be a spot I won't soon forget.

Thanks for the nicely placed ~summit cache. Who would have thought Wednesday was a prime summit day but based on the crowds, I hope that was the case! Glad the cache was somewhat removed so I didn't look too strange up there!
