Cowboy's Buying More Cattle

Cowboy went to Mancos to buy some cattle. He was to meet Zeb Jones, a local rancher, at the Bank at 2 pm. on Friday. Cowboy was carrying some saddlebags with a great sum of cash to finalize the purchase. Cowboy arrived early for the appointment and decided to rest his horse in the shade of a tree. He tied off his horse, Zorro, and with the saddlebags over his shoulder Cowboy walked down the street to find a place to get a cool drink.

Out of the corner of his eye, Cowboy spotted two shady-looking characters in front of the local mercantile store. One was tall with a black mustache and well-worn black Stetson. He wore his gun low on his hip ----gunslinger style. His sidekick was a short man with a ratty stubble beard, a fat round face, and a brown derby hat. He carried a double barrel shotgun. Cowboy moved quickly to the bank where he could rest inside without the threat of having the men pick a fight with him. Zeb showed up and a deal was swiftly made for 20 head of prime stock. When Cowboy exited the bank he looked around but did not see the owlhoots he had spotted earlier. He moved to his horse with a steady pace, untied his reins, and swung into the saddle. He glanced up to see the two gunmen running from the store. They were not expecting Cowboy to leave so quickly. Before the owlhoots could get to their horses and saddle up, Zorro had covered nearly half a mile. Cowboy quickly disappeared into the trees along the Mancos River and he was gone. He would come back and go to Zeb’s ranch later when the dust had settled.
