Significant hike  Medium hike (1km-10km)

Over the past 11 years since moving to Colorado, Chief Mountain has become one of our favorite go-to hikes when we want a short hike with amazing views.  If you have been here already, then just enjoy another new cache in the area.  If this is your first time hiking this trail, then you should definitely hike all the way to the top to see the amazing views.  It's about a 4 mile rountrip hike and it's not too difficult by Colorado standards.  However, if you are coming from sea level or don't hike very much then it could feel more challenging.  This cache is on the right side of the trail (if you are heading up the mountain) on a hillside right after the trail crosses the dirt road that passes through the hiking path on the map.  We provided a waypoint to the trailhead.

 Hints

Cache is on the right side of the trail if you are heading up the mountain. Look for the rock ledge and a tree that looks like a "V". The cache is under the rock ledge.

Wow was I ever grateful for the hint! Short on time and tons of muggle foot traffic thwarted my best efforts for about 10 minutes. Finally a quiet opening and there it was! This container and D/T combo earn a favorite! Thanks for adding to the collection up here! Stamped my name and kept trucking! TFTC!

Great hide indeed! Might have looked right at it and never figured it out if we weren't familiar with this type of item. Well done!

[FTF] 08-07-2020 at 6:00 pm. We headed up the trail and once near the GZ we searched for landscape matching the hint. Im grateful for a good description in the land of bouncing coords. We arrived and found the very clever cache.

What do I do after a long work day in Denver's 102 degree temperatures? I think its a good idea to head to the hills and take advantage of the temperature drop. As we passed the foothills we watched the Jeep's exterior thermometor sensor drop all the way down to a comfortable 72 degrees. Our geocaching day began on Chief Mountain. We saw comfortable, curious mountain squirrels, chipmunks, and we heard a few hummingbirds. Beautiful day in the mountains. Then we grabbed a few more on the way to Evergreen where we had Himalayan food and shared it with a mouse before heading back to Aurora for Sonic and then the comfort of a good night's sleep.
Thanks for the cache!
