Significant hike  Needs maintenance  Medium hike (1km-10km)

Two of my favourite activities are Trail running and Geocaching and I often like to combine the two by picking up a cache while out on a trail run. This Cache is part of a series that I will be creating that combine a Geocache with a favourite running trail in and around Colorado Springs, CO. You don't have to run the trail to get these Caches but bonus points if you traildo.

Spruce Mountain (More of a Butte or Mesa) is located between Palmer Lake and Larkspur. The main trail is about 5 1/2 miles and is a lollipop with the out and back to the top of the butte about 1.6 miles and a 2.3 mile loop that follows the perimeter of the Butte. There are great views from the Southern (where this cache is) and Western sides. It is a fairly gentle climb on the way out and descent on the way back. An alternative to the lollipop is to take the Eagle Pass trail until it meets the service road on the South end. From here turn left for a steep climb to the top where it meets the main trail. Turn right for the longer loop back. This option is also about 5.5 miles but offers a nice loop through the aspens without any out and back.

11:56 AM We are here from Dallas for our typical August vacation in Divide in order to skip the Texas heat for a couple of weeks.

Today we headed to Spruce Mountain and Open Space. We were here about 10 years ago for the conclusion of a classic sparrowPI multicache. This time it's the Classic Movie series that is bringing us to the area.

The two of us searched out to about a 30-40 ft radius but DNF.

Thanks, colorado-rattll, for the hunt.
