Outlaws & Scoundrels that roamed the Old West include famous bandits and no-gooders such as Billy the Kid, the Wild Bunch, Jesse James, Sam Bass, Soapy Smith and Mountain Charley.
With little to no law enforcement in this wild land, they reaped a harvest of treasures from Stagecoach and Train robberies, Wagon Train marauding, Bank robberies, running scams and highway holdups. It’s reported their hideouts continually changed so that their stashed loot was not all in one place. Often times they were arrested, shot or hanged before much of it could be retrieved.
Like today and all of history, Scoundrels have unfortunately always been more than abundant. But, in history, they could often get away with their lies, cheating, tricks, and cons for much longer than they can today, as they moved from place to place, repeating the same old tricks before another new audience. Sometimes, they changed their names, but often weren’t even required to, as back in the days of the Old West, most people didn’t ask questions of a newcomer’s past. From pimps, to card sharks, shell game artists, and simple picket pockets, here you’ll find a wealth of unsavory characters in American History.
Geocache Instructions:
This mystery cache leads you on a tiny journey to some of those “stash holes” hidden in the cliffs of a Soda Creek tributary, near an old pioneer road. This is a 4-stage multi-cache. The first 3 stages require solving a puzzle to retrieve the advancing coords.
There is no physical cache container at the initial coordinates. The published coordinates are for limited shoulder parking to access the trail. It can be easily missed because it sits on the left shoulder at the apex of a hairpin turn. A bit more shoulder parking can be found preceding it at N39 41.091 W105 24.152
The beginning Stage #1 coords can be found by answering the following questions based on the lives of these Outlaws and Scoundrels. GEOCACHE CLUE: All stages are on the WEST side of the stream. Stage #1 is about 10 feet in from parking. Stage 2 is about 20 feet up from that. The second 2 stages are a bit further up the stream and are also about 10 feet apart. All stages are not far from the stream and not hard to find but may need some geosense. Because of the canyon rocks and forest, the coords can be very jumpy and a bit hard to pin down. It may take some patience.
