Recently, I was hiking through the area looking for some lonely caches that had not been checked since the fire had burned through the area on June 23, 2012. I did not have my hopes too high on finding some of these but I was very pleasently surprised to find 5 caches that hadn't been found in over 6 years! Amazingly, they all survived one of the worst fires we've seen in the area!
This cache was untouched by any flames and everything fully intact. Unfortuantely, it was archived. I am ressurecting this one like many I have done to pay some tribute to the amazing luck that these little guys had to survive such devistation. If you have found this one previously, feel free to log it as found again. The log is still there with everyone's signature! Here are the original cache details:
A nod to all the great 'along the way' caches out there!
Placed by Waldo Canyon Witzpedition: GorillaGal, BobFireman, NurseGirl and WitzAbout.
We placed this at the fork in the trail where you need to go up a very, very steep, rocky trail to get to a number of caches.
Log, 2 small pencils. Could hold only very small items or very small travelbugs.

Here's some information about the fire itself:
The Waldo Canyon fire was a forest fire that started approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) northwest of Colorado Springs, Colorado on June 23, 2012, and was declared 100 percent contained on July 10, 2012, after no smoke plumes were visible on a small portion of the containment line on Blodgett Peak. The fire was active in the Pike National Forest and adjoining areas, covering a total of 18,247 acres (29 sq mi; 74 km2).[2] The fire had caused the evacuation of over 32,000 residents of Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs and Woodland Park, several small mountain communities along the southwestern side of Highway 24, and partial evacuation of the United States Air Force Academy.[3][4] There were 346 homes destroyed by the fire.[5]U.S. Highway 24, a major east-west road, was closed in both directions.[6] The Waldo Canyon Fire resulted in insurance claims totaling more than US $453.7 million.[7] It was the most destructive fire in Colorado state history, as measured by the number of homes destroyed, until the Black Forest Fire surpassed it almost a year later when it consumed 486 homes and damaged 28 others.[9]

I will use the "been there done that" from years ago.
The place will never look like it used to.
Thanks for the Resurrection!

08/25/2018 By Kerewin0430 Found on a beautiful day of hiking and great conversation with gampa&gamma! I've been meaning to explore the Waldo Canyon area for a while, and today was the day. My mom was unexpectedly in town for a little longer than anticipated, so she joined us, too...for an excellently tiring hike that ended up being longer than expected, as well (and uphill on the way back, even)! I thought we were only going for 4 (or maybe 8 caches if we were feeling it), but we got to GZs for 10! Along the way, my mom decided that she'd finally get her own geocaching account for all the traveling she does, too. We have a convert, haha! Co {*FTF*} almost a month after publish! Thank you for resurrecting this cache - the hint was helpful, as the groundcover was getting fairly deep in this area.
08/25/2018 By gampa&gamma We enjoyed an incredibly beautiful Colorado day of hiking and caching with Kerewin0430 and her mom. Signed log as Co-{FTF} and replaced as found. Thanks for resurrecting this cache for all of us to enjoy.
08/25/2018 By J&J Team Yukon Going by here from Oklahoma on our vacation and saw this FTF Cache available. We got to the trailhead to the West of the cache but were turned back by trail closed signs and a surveillance camera in the parking lot. Good luck to the next cacher to try for this FTF.
