Just over a mile up Forest Road 34, paralleling the North Fork of the Purgatoire River. Micro cache with no room for a pen so BYOP. A little gift for the FTF. Be bear aware and Happy Hunting!
I am bringing back this once popular cache. Life and a lengthy hiatus from geocaching caused me to archive this cache a few years back. We are finally able to make our quarterly trip back to the area again so here it is!! The cache container is roughly the size of a film cannister with no room for a pen and room for SMALL trade items only. The first to find can take (or leave) the small gift I left in there. The road up to the cache is a forest service road that will not be passable during the winter months. A vehicle with a little bit of clearance is recommended for all other times. If you are feeling energetic, you could always hike from the highway
Trinchera Peak is the big peak visible to the West. A good set of binoculars will sometimes reveal large Bighorn rams skylined on the peak and slopes. Bear, mule deer, elk, turkey, blue grouse and the occasional whitetail deer can be seen on the short drive up to the cache.
Another 3 miles up this ever worsening road will take you to the Purgatoire Campground. Beautiful place to camp in a tent OR a camper. If pulling your camper, however, be prepared for a pretty rough road. Do-able but not necessarily easy on equipment getting there.
This is one of the most beatiful areas in the country so take your camera and sense of adventure and have fun!!
