A ‘retired and tired’ gold prospectors dream cache.
This prospector only likes gold items, so if you want to make a trade bring a gold (real or colored) item. This is a 2 part multi. The first part is fairly easy to find but you may need a magnifying glass to find your way to the second part. He likes rocks. It is off The Geocaching Trail at a good view spot. So think GOLD and have fun.
Look at the cache page for Geocaching Trail (GCK5N2) for more info and other caches along the trail.

Although I made the find on this cache, I didn’t realize how dangerous it is…future cachers should approach it with caution. My good friend Junebug died while we were attempting to sign the log. Although Junebug’s family appreciates their privacy (and not mentioning his real name) and asked that local news media do not run anything about his death, I ask that you pause for a moment of silence before you read of Junebug’s last moments.

Although we have never been to this area before, Junebug and I decided to come after this cache today. I always like history, and Junebug loves gold. We managed to find the first waypoint without any drama. I appreciated the bonus of learning about the history of local prospectors with information contained in the first waypoint. Despite their desire to get rich, apparently older prospectors eventually retire due to failing eyesight…I suppose being unable to read safety labels in really, really small print can be hazardous to one’s health. While the first waypoint was relatively straight forward, it was the final that proved dangerous and is ultimately responsible for my friend Junebug’s death.

After a nice walk down the trail, we eventually made our way to the GZ. After scaling the rocks, we found the container and opened it. After an initial blinding light, Junebug and I marveled at the contents. A fan of gold, Junebug reached into the container. Looking at the corner of my eye, I saw Junebug suddenly begin to twitch. I though Junebug was about to break into a victory dance, but he rolled over…dead. Just like in the 1988 film, I'm Gonna Git You Sucka, Junebug had OG’ed…Over-Gold. While I was happy to make the find, it is poor compensate for the loss of my friend. RIP Junebug.

RIP Junebug

This one was wonderful! The first stage is close to parking, and the next stage is half a mile further up the trail in such a unique lookout. It's off the trail, but people have left cairns all the way there. And it IS full of gold! It's amazing! I took a coin from Brazil and left a gold coin from the Soldiers' Angels organization--a great group of people who send Soldiers over a hundred packages when they are deployed. TFTC!

My date is approximate - Had a real nice hike - kind of a beginner's cckwise loop. Went straight uphill at S1, tried trails that were both real & imagined -between my gpsr screen & followable reality- ... and eventually came out ... wait for it ... Golden BigSmile

I had to park along the shoulder of the East side of the road since a truck pulling a trailer was parked in the pulloff to the West. Grabbed the first container and headed off to the final. Is there a name to this trail and where does it go to? It is a great morning for a hike! When we were starting to get close to the GZ I had a really good idea where it was hidden. WOO HOO! Struck GOLD!! Stamped the log and we're off to the next one. [8d][8d] SL TFTC TNLN

The Burnt Turtles are in town for our yearly Colorado trip (kids first time). With some other family members wanting to go horseback riding Spencer (9yrs) chose to do that then cache with his little sister and I. Whatever that's fine. They set off on the trail at 1:30pm so we had an hour. Little did I know this cache was going to take up the majority of that hour. Boy we had to beat feet to figure out and locate all the parts of this great cache. We made it back just in time for them to dismount their horses. Perfect. I had not even looked at this cache prior to 1:30pm but I'm glad we did and decided to go for gold! Glad this one is still hanging in there. Thank you

Thanks to JR&B for a well done multi. I loved how the final stuck to the theme! I left some foreign coins (gold in color ) to add to the bounty. Both stages are in great shape and thanks for the hints even though the coords were good at both locations.

After successfully negotiating the trail to Along the Geocaching Trail, I was encouraged enough to move on to the final for this one. No rainbow, but indeed a pot of gold! Nicely tucked away, too. TFTC.

Hi - I spent the day 'explor-imenting' by truck around the region south of Pike's, & up Old Stage Rd to get more familiar with trailheads; FS road numbers; Mtn peak names; etc. I took the gpsr (well- loaded with caches) & two different Pike Natn'l Forest maps too. Fall aspens were very nice where they still held leaves; traffic was quite low, and the weather got gradually better as the day wore on!

Hi - I made the quick, for- future- reference stop at S1 ... will see you again when I can ! Smile
