The Horns

A trail dedicated to Geocaching.
It has a hidden characteristic to it. It is not listed in any of the guide books that I know of. The trail starts at N. 38' 44.038, W. 104' 53.722 off the Old Stage Road near the #369 road intersection. The trail is on the 2009 version of the Pikes Peak Atlas map by Robert Ormes & Robert Houdek at #34. It bypasses the old washed out part that went up the hill. There is a small parking area across the road. There is a wide spot just up the road and also down by the stable entrance where you could park also. The trail needs a lot of TLC, it is narrow and overgrown in places. The cache is at a good view spot of the area with a balanced rock near-by, see picture below. If you continue on the trail past the cache you will find an old water pump at N 38' 44.928, W 104' 52.402. The pump is right next to the trail and you can not miss it. The trail follows the pump pipeline and goes over the ridge and comes out near the Broadmoor Cloud camp/lodge near The Horns, although they have now put a NO TRASPASSING sign where you get to the Broadmoor property.
Along the Geocaching Trail (GC2WOMJ) and Gold Treasure Chest cache (GCK5N5) are also off this trail, so be sure to hunt for them also.
There is a bearing marker just before you reach the top of the ridge at N. 38' 45.133, W. 104' 52.059.
Follow the Pipeline cache (GC1430W) is also in the area of the top of the ridge.

Checked on the cache and trail today. Both are in good shape. There is one tree that fell over the trail but you can easily climb over it.

I was out for a nice hike today; this was my first visit to this trail and Cheyenne Mountain. Since I was in the area, I decided to give this cache a try. I enjoyed the trail and was happy to make the find on the cache with no drama. The container is still in serviceable condition. Thanks to the CO for bringing me to the MacNeill Trail and placing this cache for everyone to find, TFTC.

This one left me bruised and battered and scratched and nearly stranded on a rock precipice indefinitely. I came at it completely all wrong! The path actually takes you pretty close. NOT the way I went. My stupid arrow had me head downhill way too early, and it was 300 feet down slippery gravel. And then I circled the boulder family more than once, going up and over and under. I finally found it as the thunder rolled, the rain started falling, and the daylight vanished. I got drenched on the trek back. BUT, it was a great cache--full of cool stuff. I took a fishing reel and left a ton of toys. TFTC!

Checked on my cache today and added one item to it. The trail is in good shape. There was only one area with a little ice on it.

I had a great hike up Cheyenne Mountain today and found this one on my way back. Thanks for showing me a cool spot. I wonder how many years it will be before the rock becomes unbalanced. TFTC

Checked on my cache today, it is in good shape. Also did some work on the trail. There is one tree that fell across the trail but you can easily step over it. I did not go any farther on the trail past the cache.

Went father off the trail than I needed to, turning this into a four star terrain cache. After a bit of scrambling, Geocaching senses took over and found it quickly. Great spot to rest the legs.

Old Stage Road is finally open again. So I went to check on my caches up there. The caches are fine and the trail is in good shape also.
