I don't know how many times I've driven Hwy 50 to Delta, but for some reason I looked over at this hill today and I thought that point really ought to have a geocache. I got home and checked, and sure enough it was clear, so I came out this evening to set one.
The smart money to get to this cache is to park at the noted parking area (waypoint provided) and walk up the drainage gully until you're near the top, and then take a right. Your GPS will have you anywhere from 1,000 to 1,500 feet away when it's a good idea to turn out of the channel. Hiking up the channel is a terrific part of this cache. The various boulders, waterfalls, trees, and geological features are all great things to enjoy and appreciate. Then when you get to the top, the view is really something to behold. My favorite caches are ones that take me to places I would not otherwise go, and I try to set ones that provide the same experience.
It’s about a 2 mile round trip with about 400 feet elevation gain. Some rock scrambling required, but not too bad. It’s a beautiful hike. Take your time and enjoy the journey. It's a safe place to hike and explore, as long as you're careful!
The cache is a small container with just a log and some pencils. Hidden under an outcropping and covered with a rock. I am not a fan of remote caches that are hard to find, so I'm attaching a couple of spoiler pics to help. It's under a rock outcropping hidden by another rock. I'm so clever.
Congrats to kekj for the FTF. Especially for surviving the way of certain doom!
