Cowboy was on his way home to Cortez from a long trip to Silverton.  He was beat and his horse, Gunner, was tuckered out.   As Cowboy almost fell out of his saddle with drowsiness, he failed to see the prairie dog colony in front of him.  Gunner dropped his foot into a prairie dog hole which tossed Cowboy into the dirt and sage.  When Cowboy jumped up he realized that Gunner had wrenched his front leg.

Cowboy knew the horse should not be ridden so he walked toward Cortez with his limping horse in tow.  After two or three hours of walking in westerm boots, Cowboy saw a dust cloud in the distance.  As it approached, Cowboy could see it was the Durango-Cortez stage coach.  The coach driver pulled up the reins and stopped the horses next to Cowboy and said, "Son, you look terrible!"  Cowboy told his story of the prairie dog mounds and the wise old driver said "Throw yer saddle and gear up on top and climb up here with me. Give them feet a rest. We can pony yer horse behind."  Cowboy said "Thanks, I'll take you up on that but we don't need to tie Gunner.  He will follow me anywhere".

The cache is a small bottle camoflaged and not too hard to find. It could be muddy at times. It could have some debris thrown from passing cars.

The wifey (dfay1165) and I are heading out of town (Las Vegas) for vacation in Colorado and google maps brought us on this route. This was just a short walk from parking and I wandered back and forth, could not find it, then I expanded my search radius, still could not find it. Wifey (dfay1165 read some previous logs ... that were not helpful), searched some more and after about 20 minutes searching, I finally spotted it. Not sure I would have rated this one only a 1.5 difficulty, but everyone seems to be finding it, so it must just be me. At least we found it and made our way down the road. All is well with the cache container and log.

So, I will apologize right now, because everything from here on is here solely for the purpose of increasing my word count average. It seems that there are caching statistical challenges that look at the word count averages in our “Found It” logs.

And now for today's trivia ...

BEST FRIENDS DAY
On June 8, honor your closest and dearest friend on Best Friends Day.

The relationship between best friends is often fierce and can withstand distance, storms and silence. Whether we’ve known them all our lives or they are more recently acquired, best friends make tough times bearable, fun times memorable and memorable times priceless.

Maybe there are several best friends in your life. No matter how many there are, get together and celebrate the day!

HOW TO OBSERVE

Celebrate National Best Friends Day by letting your best friends know how much they mean to you!

TODAY IS ALSO ....

NATIONAL UPSY DAISY DAY
Each year on June 8, National Upsy Daisy Day is set aside to encourage you to face the day positively and to get up ‘gloriously, gratefully and gleefully’ each morning.

Every day is a gift and if we remember that as we rise each morning, it will help us carry a good attitude throughout the day, whatever the day may bring us. Life is full of challenges and bumps in the road, and it is our attitude that helps us over the bumps and through the challenges to move onward with a smile.

Give it a try. Be grateful and thankful for what you do have such as a bed to sleep in, food to eat, friends and family. Try a smile and see how it feels. It may surprise you that it feels good on the inside also and how other people will smile back. You may just brighten up their day! Upsy Daisy!

HISTORY

National Upsy Daisy Day was created by Stephanie West Allen is 2003. Her desire in creating National Upsy Daisy Day was to make humor, laughter and a positive attitude part of the Upsy Daisy Day way.

I needed 9 more caches to finish the hidden creatures challenge. I like to make things harder than necessary and also keep them all above a 2 terrain. I was able to do it! Sl, thanks!

Came down to visit Mesa Verde, 4 corners, do a few geo-tours with some geocaches along the way. Back in town after a long day out with a few hours to fill. SmileWink What do I do? Cache of course....

Cache logged at July 1, 2018

Mick McPhee thank you for placing.

May your GPS be true, your eyes sharp, and your geocaching-sense kick in when needed. Approve

Rock hounds are the original geocachers and unlike the Egyptians we don't intentionally curse or booby-trap our hides. Cool
