Not sure why no one has chosen to try for this cache. Maybe put off by lenght or what. Any input would be appericated. .
This cache is a five part poker run that is about 25 miles in one direction. The road can be easy or bad depending on the weather.
This cache was inspired by an ATV poker run held each year during DeBeque Wild Horse days in August. There are five locations. Each of the first four contains only a log book, and envelopes with a card sealed inside.Cordinates to the next cache and hints are printed on the outside of each envelopes. The object is to collect an envelope from each cache and to log your poker hand at the last cache, which is also filled with trade goodies. The road can be travled with most any type vehicle, although a high clearance vehicle is recommended. An ATV is a joy.Remember West Nile Virus, bring Bug repellant, water and snacks. The last stop is at an area called the Goblins and makes a great lunch stop. Also close to one of the caches is the location of Purple Rocks View, Another cache you can locate while in the neighborhood.
All caches are within 100 yards of the Wild Horse trail. The trail starts and ends at the DeBeque town hall and maps of the trail are available there and information about the trail is available in town or through the BLM. Good luck and keep on caching

Third time is a charm! We found the first stage while caching in the area on 10/31/12. Out again on 11/20/12 to try to complete the series. We found stages two, three and four but progressively muddier roads prevented us from getting to the final stage. Today with dry roads we found the 5th and final stage. T:Envelopes LN. SL. The stage one and four containers are in really bad shape and need first aid. Thanks for a very interesting multi in a beautiful area. Our poker hand was: Ac, 10d, Jc, 2s and 2h; a single pair. After finding the final stage we climbed Corcoran Peak for a great view of the Bookcliffs and the Roan Plateau.

Hard to believe that most stages of this cache have gone 2 1/2 years without being found! We have had this one on our list since attending the BBQ event at Debeque Doc's house years ago. The wild horse run was going on that day so we put off venturing down the road for a quieter time, but always avoided days that were too hot, or cold, or wet.... Today was my birthday and it's been awhile since we've tackled a multi of this extent....down a road we've never traveled far on... it was a perfect day and a great way to spend the afternoon! The road was good the whole way and autumn colors dappled the hillsides.
A birthday toast to Doc... it seemed like he was tagging along...pointing the way at times. Great hints, great hides. TFTC!

BTW...A couple stages need some maintenance...I'll message gooftroop with the particulars.

Our friend DeBeque Doc has passed on. We are going to try to take over care of his caches and TB's.

Took the trusty jeep out for a ride today and decided to pickup a few caches. We tried this last spring in the mud without finding it. Beautiful area. TFTC, TNLN

We found the first four but couldn't find # 5. We'll try again after the roads dry out some.

Mrs. RocketMan and I were on our way to Moab to meet up with friends from San Diego and Colorado to do some Jeep’n. Mrs. RocketMan had wanted to do a run to see the Wild Horses near De Beque so we decided to make a side trip from De Beque on our way to Moab to see if we could find some. We ended up finding a couple of herds and even got to witness a rare site of a couple of horses making babies.

The bad news was that we could not find this cache. We did find all the stages, but the final was nowhere to be found. I found a spot at ground zero that matched the hint, but there was no cache there. I believe the cache is gone. It was fun while it lasted.

Thanks for the adventure,
RocketMan

Was looking at a map of a new cache in the area & saw that WHPR didn't have a smiley face for us---this was one of our most memorable finds back in May (08). Found I had logged it under Wild Horses & not Wild Horse Poker Run. Corrected now.

Finished at 2:06 pm. Took wooden nickel & monkey. Left RWB Anklet & fantasic elastic boy. Great ride. Don't complete the loop if you're not in or on something that isn't street legal--last 6 miles are on the street. Thanks for the fun. We ended up with: 10S, 10C, 9D, 7C, & 5S.
