THREE CACHES ON UTE
Can't find the name of this mountain on any map,the benchmark at the top is UTE. This is right next door to Saxon Mountain, and has somehow managed to be cache 'nekkid.' Well, no more. Cache #1 is the Tower cache. Very nearby is a tall tower that collects weather information. Cache #2 is in a field of bristlecone pine stumps - very cool, and Cache #3 is near the summit. Find the summit, and find the UTE benchmark, and the summit log hidden in a rock pile.
Park in the large area here, than hike up and find the others. But make sure you take a reading where your vehicle is - every time that I have been up this mountain, I have managed to get a little disoriented. Not sure why.

This cache is a bit off of the summit - if you parked at the tower, as you walk up, you will find the summit and benchmark first. This cache takes you a little further away to get a little different view. Still very beautiful.

This cache is named for Kermit the Frog's signature song, "It's Not Easy Bein' Green." Specifically, the third verse:
"But green's the color of Spring
And green can be cool and friendly-like
And green can be big like an ocean, or important
Like a mountain, or tall like a tree."

Sittin' on the rocks where this cache is, you are surrounded by green. And yes, everything in the cache is actually green!

Hidden in a cleft in the rocks, but not on the ground - a green! duct-taped tin cookie container about 5" in diameter.

These three were my goal for the day. My stock F-150 made it almost to the top, but was stopped by a snow drift that I later plowed through to turn around. I was incredibly surprised to see a muggle couple and 3 dogs on top as I approached the summit! Awesome 270-degree view of the high country today and I found the nearby benchmark. Cache is in good shape, but the lid is quite hard to remove. Cheers!
