What is a renaissance man? Someone who knows something about nearly everything. This may have been possible centuries ago but in today's world of specialization and exploding knowledge, this is not possible.

But what about an 'active' renaissance man, a renaissance 'outdoorsman?' Someone who does a variety of outdoor pursuits, and does them well.

This cache is dedicated to someone I consider just that, Al Czecholinski. He climbs, hikes, runs, backpacks, road bikes, mountain bikes, and perhaps does other outdoor activities I don't know about. Al has done these activities all over the USA, and the World. For example, he has climbed El Capitan in Yosemite. That's pretty hard—I know, I looked up the wall from the bottom once.

Al is an outdoor multi-tasker! Got his start in the Hoofers at the Univ Wisconsin.

This cache is placed under a rock, symbolizing rock climbing. The cache is near Lumpy Ridge/Gem Lake, known for climbing and hiking. The cache is on Devils Gulch Road, which is often used by bikers and runners. A renaissance cache? Not quite, but it does cover several of Al's many outdoor pursuits.

No need to cross any fence. About 20 feet away is a USGS survey marker.

Hmm. I can't help pointing out that this outdoorsWOMAN found this cache today. In fact, most of the local cachers are women. You've inspired me--I think I might start a series of tributes to all the outdoorswomen I know. (You did remind me of Hoofers, which I would like to have joined, but when I was at UW I was in med school and had small kids. It's not true that you can have quite everything.)

Anyway, this was a quick find. I needed a cache today (to fill out a double calendar) and this was handy--lots handier than the new virtual downtown would have been on a Friday in tourist season. I discovered the two TBs inside but left them there. TFTC!

This one found at night:)

We came all the way from Czech Republic to find four caches of this CO. Worth it! FP
