!! Exciting New Cache Series!!

“COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST”

The Colorado Spirit Quest is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural and mountain communities across Colorado.  This series will introduce you to many of them.

The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries and tombstones.

COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST is not affiliated with any other ‘Spirit Quest’ group.  Special thanks and credit are given to SixDogTeam who started the Indiana Spirit Quest in 2004. The idea has rapidly spread into many states.

The CSQ endeavor is an enormous and relentless task.  It cannot be accomplished by just one or two people.  This project will only flourish if there is a multitude of volunteer cachers  willing to place these caches.

After locating the cache container, take some time to reflect back on the lives of those pioneers and the effort it took to make Colorado such a great state.

If you are interested in joining the “Walking Through History Clan” contact may be made by sending an e-mail to the owner of “Colorado Spirit Quest #1 – Mountain Passage”.  Use the ‘Send Message” link at the center of the page of their profile.

Each person that places a CSQ cache is responsible for its maintenance.

REMEMBER:

If you are APPREHENSIVE about cemeteries – AVOID this series.

When the Colorado Spirit Quest was announced, I started looking at topo maps online to see if maybe there might be references to forgotten cemeteries and single graves. I found a few. This one was near the site of Parkville on the Georgia Pass road. I had no idea what I would find when I checked it out. I didn't know if I would find anything at all, or if I would find a formal cemetery or perhaps something in between. This particular location features some rocks cemented together in the shape of what I took to be a grave marker. There may be other graves in the area but I did not see any with a quick examination. If you see some, please report the coords and any appropriate details in your log.

The cache is a decon container hidden under a small fir tree.

The difficulty rating is a 2 because I kept getting a bunch of satellite signal bounce. Should you also have that problem, read the hint.

The family sedan can get to this location without difficulty. There is a spot to park and turn around when you are finished caching.

Found it but nothing else in the area so couldn't help wondering about this cache's relationship to the other, similarly-named cache nearby.

We have tried to find this one a couple of times before without any luck (even with the hint). We tried it again today and ended up walking right to it. Glad we finally got this one. TFTC!

As long as Miss Jenn has been around geocaching, you would think she would now better than follow a Michigander to a cache, but that is what she did following me on a shortcut, which probably didn't turn out to be the faster method. I did true to form find the easy way out though. Took a couple minutes to spot it and a few more to actually get to the cache to and from the cache location.

Found while on our GeoWoodstock roadtrip. During our nine day, 3900 mile journey, we found caches in six states (including one new one), added 90 new counties, 39 virtuals, two Cache Across America caches, and the oldest caches in four states. Found with a bunch of fellow friends, reviewers, and lackeys as we wound our way up the mountain in a 13 Jeep caravan. Bumming a ride with maingray as well as Mr and Mrs Mtn-man. Thanks for the cache.
