An old mining ghost town of the late 1800's. A great area of the mountains that is very historical and picturesque.

Cache is located about 11 miles up the Lincoln Creek road off of Hwy 82 (Independence Pass) the elevation is about 11,500 feet , it is about an hour trip by ATV or 2 hour trip by jeep (one way). Last 5 miles of the road requires a high clearance vehicle, really recommend a 4x4. An old mining ghost town that has 4 or 5 old structures from the late 1800's. Several hiking trails in the area along with camping sites and high country lakes for fishing. Scenic mountain vistas and just remote enough that it doesn't get a lot of tourists. Road is usually only open from early July till maybe mid to late September, so be careful not to get caught in this area because of adverse road or weather conditions (NO CELL PHONE SERVICE). There is a lot of private property and mining claims in the area so even though there are few No Trespassing signs in the area please respect nature and the property owner's rights (TREAD LIGHTLY). According to my GPS this cache is located on a sliver of US Forest Servcie land. As with any old mining or ghost town area PLEASE be aware of your surroundings and be alert for possbile hazards. Cache contains emergency supplies, FTF, and other trinkets. Enjoy the Rocky Mountains!!!

Ruby has been on my "must visit" ghost town list for quite some time, but didn't think I'd ever make it without a Jeep. We camped at the reservoir (just before the road gets rough) the night before, then took my 2012 Forester up the road. If I were more experienced at wheeling and more confident then I probably could have gone all the way, but as it was I parked at the Frenchman's cabin and walked from there, since it was a little rough in spots for my skill level and our other goal was the hiking trail nearby to Petroleum and Anderson Lakes and we were only 1/4 mile to the trailhead. The town is more spread out than I had pictured but there are some really neat structures still standing, well worth a visit. Cache is in such great shape it looks like it was placed yesterday! Amazing it doesn't have more finds! Marking some trackables as visited, didn't drop them since I didn't want them to get stranded for too many months :) Thanks for hiding this one!

Wanted to thank the cache owner for placing this cache in such a beautiful location. Could not believe it has never been found. This my first "First to find", Came all the way from Wisconsin to do it! We were able to get up this road in a Honda Civic without any issues until we encountered a locked gate right past the reservoir. That did not deter me from hiking up about 4 miles to the cache. Explored a few of the old buildings that were falling down, but most of all I enjoyed the scenery up there. Fellow cachers, you NEED to get up here to find this cache :)
