Easy to log reward for a rewarding trip to another Colorado ghost town and intense high country scenery.
Between Gunnison and Buena Vista lies the scenic and historic Taylor Valley, Reservoir, the S flowing Taylor River, a bumpy dirt road (FR742)and a once bustling town of 1000 miners where only a 10 site campground now sits. Dorchester Townsite existed from 1896-1914 and boasted 2 stores, hotels, restaurants, livery stables, saloons and a barber shop. It was a town of miners and prospectors when gold was discovered on Italian Mountain. Today friendly US Forest Volunteers spend summers in the "Guard Station," a renovated miner's cabin. BIG HUGE THANKS to GraniteGrabber for replacing the container ! We adopted this cache years ago from doc4001, who has gone on to geo-heaven. We did so because he lived in Woodland Park which is where we live, and we were asked by friends and relatives of his, and ours, to keep his caches going by adopting them, which of course, we did. Having done so, this is one of his that we have not actually gotten to yet, due to the remote location. Fast forward a couple of years and another local cacher GraniteGrabber has been kind enough to email back and forth with me/us, and has been to this location more than once. She planned ahead on her most recent visit to the area by taking a replacement container and Woo-HOO, this one is in great shape once again, ready for more cachers! THANKS GraniteGrabber !!!

Still there, barely. Container VERY cracking apart, old and other replacement logs showing the age....
But guess I'm FTF 2016, woo-hoo. This area a mucho favorite of mine for 15 years, then forest service open it up to the OHVers..... it went to hell. Was very pleased on this day trip to see if I wanted to put up with the mess to find almost no OHVers, few campers, and NO COWS??? and a good road. Took me back to 1995 when I got my first elk with a muzzle loader up towards the Enterprise mine. Too bad, don't see the elk sigh like you used to. Too many OHVers ""motorcycles"" on the the back trails.

Nice drive to the head of the Taylor River. This one was tricky but a nice man at the ranger cabin helped us. Look up !!

Stopped by while riding in the area. I was surprised to see there were no logs on it this year!
