JANUARY 2018. THERE IS NOTHING AT THE POSTED COORDINATES. FINDING THE FINAL COORDINATES FOR THE CACHE PLACEMENT IS NOW A LOT EASIER THAN IT USED TO BE. APOLOGIES TO PREVIOUS FINDERS, BUT SOMEONE KEPT STEALING THE CLUE AT STAGE 1.
THIS SHOULD HELP ”Spin Up Clue Sheet”

"Vorticity" is a non dimensional measure of the intensity of spin in a weather system. Strong low pressure systems have high vorticity.
If you search around, sometimes you can see this spin from space.

Out for a little walk this morning, exploring a trail I hadn't hiked before. My goodness, I can see where the joke about "66 switchbacks" comes from! Cache is in great shape, and boy was I thankful it wasn't camo'd. Bounce was heavy here, and the ants were swarming!! Every time I scrambled somewhere new and stopped to check my location, I suddenly had ants covering my legs and sometimes my arms - glad no one was there to see the swat-flail-smack dance! Glad to spot it before I got into trouble. Thanks for placing this cache!

Future hikers, please note - the "snowplow turn around point" is no longer a legal place to park - good thing the parking at the bottom of the hill is still close!

Project GC tells me this is the 650th longest unfound cache in Colorado, that is a lot of caches going several years unfound. Astonishing to me that a cache this good could go unfound for so long. I decided to go for it after signing in at the Challenge cache a short distance up the Heizer trail. About 400 metres from the cache it seemed right to leave the trail and head through the aspen and pine trees.
At GZ I wandered around the rock feature before finding the right way to get to the box. Not at my most nimble today with a bit of a side strain, the scrambling was a little painful. One of the biggest challenges for me was traversing a very active and extensive ant nest that was between me and where I wanted to go. I don't like the feeling of boots sinking into soft ground teeming with ants, but I got over them without getting bitten.
I am pleased to say the cache and contents are in top condition. I feel a good sense of satisfaction to resurrect such an excellent cache in a superb location, and will be giving it my next Favourite point. Well worth the effort for a stunning view, and I was fortunate that whilst there was a lot of thunder today, not a drop of rain fell on me.

I replaced the images locked by Photobucket. And I made this MULTI a LOT easier by simply posting the clue that you would have found at Stage 1 when the cache was first placed. Someone kept stealing it. Now everything you need to know is in the link on the cache page. The difficulty of getting to the ammo can has not changed.

Hi - Got to nab just this one; as well as a quickie in the park at the bottom, this afternoon. My wife & I had a fun but exhausting hike ( Summer Roundup this AM !!!) ... those beautiful Weidemeyer's Admirals were flying everywhere & one even liked her socks !
Amazing to be next to sign after Dallasite AM... we've crossed a few paths in Texas too BigSmile

12:05:00 PM We are visiting from Dallas and staying in Divide for four weeks. I think it was "Spin Up" that brought the Heizer trail to my attention. I've been deferring it to the latter part of our trip so we had maximum acclimation and conditioning. Today was the day. It was bitter-sweet. We didn't hit all the caches I intended, but we both enjoyed the trail portion of the hike and the amazing views.

Well, this was the centerpiece of our hike today. Excellent information about parking and trailhead and such. I definitely did a "Spin Up" to the GZ as we circled around to get to the correct approach. I looked in the wrong place at first and got really nervous. Then, a few feet away, I saw the cache. Great stuff. I really wanted to go for Ratelle-ouille after this, but there wasn't a clear trail and my bushwhacking path really must have worn out my better half. We stopped and turned back about 500 feet from "Nice Spot v4.0 - A Tribute to Freckle the dog" (GC17V7V). However, I think I have convinced her to let me do some of these hikes alone, so I look forward to giving it a shot next time we are in the area.

Great views along the way and really enjoyed the hike up to here. I signed the log. Thanks for the cache.

This cache was the primary reason that Hartsdale and I hiked up this trail today. It was a long hike with most of way being on a very well maintain trail. Once we arrived at GZ it didn't take us long to find the nice large cache. Dropped off trackable. Thanks for the multi!

Nice hike. Should have worn long pants though. Got a little scratched up. Thanks for the challenge and the cache! This was my second time up this mountain. It seemed a little easier this time. Sure is a steep one.

I recognized the first spot right away, it's close to where I live. The couple times I went there, the clue was painted over. Now, it's okay and I found the opportunity to get the final. Great views from there. Thanks for the cache!

I'm not sure I'd still be a cacher without Vort's patient guidance when I was a newbie. He knew I liked the long, high hikes and suggested that I try to solve his Spin-Up cache. So, in the summer of 2009, after two unsuccessful attempts at finding the first step, he took pity on me and sent me the coords. But I had already made the mistake of looking at the spoiler photo, and thought that the cache was behind the tree on the side of a steep cliff. "Later…much later," I thought to myself. Well, it only took me 3 ˝ years to finish it, and am I ever sorry I waited so long! I love the terrain on this trail. True, it's switchback hell (Ernie really needs to put a 66-switchbacks cache in up there), but still a very enjoyable hike. The views are still spectacular but much more humbling in their beauty now. No problem finding the cache. It's in excellent shape. Thanks for another fun hide.
