Early in the morning of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, this is where I'll be. I come up here every year with my family to cook a hearty breakfast over a camp stove before continuing on with the rest of the hike to watch the race. This tradition has gone on for at least 12 years!
Note: I do this hike with my parents who are in their 70's, so we have been starting earlier an earlier every year. Breakfast time is now getting closer to 5:45 or 6am.
I finally decided to keep some essential items here in the form of a geocache. Anyone is welcome to visit anytime or meet me here for Eggs, Bacon, Potatoes, toast and orange juice on the morning of next years race!
If you trade anything from this cache, please keep only useful/necessary items for hiking/cooking.
Start near Crags campground and hike up on trail 664A to this secluded spot. Have fun, relax and enjoy the view!

Got an early start from the Crags trailhead this morning and had a very nice hike up to Devil's Playground. Weather was perfect, so I took several detours once up top (and on the way down) to pick up some nearby caches. My goodness, some of these have been lonely for a while! Thank you for placing this cache - beautiful little meadow to walk through!

Was headed down from visiting the Devils Playground and saw this one was only 500 and some odd feet off trail; but I'm tired! Ok, marshaled up a little courage and move on out. Was so glad the terrain was "level" (hips are sore, heals are sore, it's what I get for hiking like this ). Cache is in great shape, so glad I'm doing this on the path down vs up as I'd planned. Hmm think I see one more I need to sign, appreciate the placement!

Oh shoot! I got here a week too early. But the Crags trail just opened and we decided to take advantage of a great hike and an opportunity to start getting the lungs in better condition. Nice spot for a cache. Thank you.

Loaded up my horse & headed for these trails. The description for these caches confused me because I had a NatGeo TI map that numbered this trail as 753 and showed 664A as a side shoot off of 664 closer to the Crags. But I finally realized I was close enough to this cache to try to ride to it & found the most fantastic meadow! While I was there I saw some survey flags tied in the trees. I wondered if there was a trail that might hook up with what showed as 664.A on my map. I followed them for some time & then there were the red wisks they use for utility markers also poked in the ground. Eventually I figured out it was taking me back to the Devil's Playground trail as well as getting steeper & steeper. I finally decided I had better find the original trail and surprise I was within about 100'! I think they are planning a reroute of the rocky & steeper section of this trail.
A fav point for a cache I can ride to.
