Come take a walk around the Beaver Brook watershed.  Today I joined forces with fellow Geocachers Garlic and Greasepot, and we decided to fill in a few holes along the trail system with some new hides.  You are searching for a large Mighty Mega Geocache container which resides somewhere in the bucolic meadow.  The cache itself is large enough for TB's and Swag, and should be pretty straight forward.  Enjoy the hunt and bring your own ink stick.

Garlic and I were out with the owner when this was placed. It's one of my favorite hikes! Thanks!

I don't know why I woke up in the middle of the night. But, as long as I was up I might as well go for a walk in the woods. When I got to the parking lot I realized that I hadn't made sure that I had a flashlight. Fortunately, I had my headlamp in my trunk. So, I headed out to the trail. I was a bit nervous about whether I was going to encounter any wildlife that could do me harm like a bear or a mountain lion. But, I figured that since I was noisy and had this light the wildlife probably would just want to stay away from me. I noted that the hike to this cache was essentially down hill the whole way and it was going to be a bit of work out on the return trip.

When I got near the location, my phone started to jump around a bit and I had to wait for it to settle down. At first I started checking the wrong host. But, once my coordinates locked in the host was obvious and I quickly found the container. I sat down in the grass and stamped my name. There was something that smelled quite nice in the area. I don't think it was the juniper.

The location seemed nice to me, at least from what I could make out in the dark. This is a nice trail and the choice of host was logical.

After signing the log and putting back the container, it was time to head back up the trail. As I expected, I worked up more of a sweat than when I was on the way out. However, I was energized by the FTF and I made pretty good time getting back to the trailhead. Interestingly, right as I made it to the trailhead a Jefferson County Sheriff pulled into the parking lot. He greeted me and asked me politely what was up. I told him that I had insomnia and decided to head out for a geocache. He was familiar with geocaching.

He asked for my ID so that he could run a quick check on me and headed back to his patrol car. After he finished his check, he returned my license along with his business card. We chatted for a bit longer about geocaching, walking in the woods, his responsibilities as a Sheriff, and what shift he works. For those who are curious, he is Deputy A. Cauley 17-27.
