Congratulations! You’ve found a geocache that is one of a series from the Grand County Water Tour!

Take CR 83 between the Towns of Fraser and Tabernash. Go .4 miles before taking the left fork onto CR 84. Go .7 miles, and directly after the paved bridge take a left onto Strawberry 844 (BLM road #2751). Proceed 1.3 miles down this road (stay left- do not go to Hurd Peak). You will see a small parking lot on your left for the Fraser River Canyon Access Trail.

This cache is hidden near the Fraser River. Beware of small, non-poisonous snakes. Low clearance vehicles use caution.

DID YOU KNOW???

  1. This area provides one of the few public access points along the Fraser River, which is primarily bordered by private property. This area is a popular fishing spot where you can find rainbow trout, German brown trout and brook trout.
  2. The Fraser River Canyon Access Trail descends about 220 feet from the trail head parking area to the Fraser River. The area along the river banks between the water and upland habitat is called the riparian zone. These zones are very important to the health of a stream by providing shade, stabilizing the river banks, and acting as natural filters to collect sediment and nutrients in surface runoff.  You can find riparian vegetation species such as grasses, sedges and willows along the Fraser River.
  3. Wildlife that lives in the area include mule deer, Rocky Mountain Elk, pine marten, pine squirrels and many species of songbirds and woodpeckers.

Happy Thanksgiving! A nice morning to be out caching in the mountains. I got a little exercise before hitting the couch for football, beer and turkey. Great directions to the trail head and a fun hike down the hill. The trail was icy and muddy in spots. Amtrak train ran downstream while I was signing the log. Quite a few muggles signing the log. Cheers!
