Congratulations! You’ve found a geocache that is one of a series from the Grand County Water Tour!
This geocache is near Cozens Ranch which is located on the east side of Highway 40 between Winter Park and Fraser.
DID YOU KNOW???
- Cozens Ranch was the original home of William Zane Cozens and is the oldest settled ranch in Grand County. It was built in 1874, making it the 1st homestead in the Fraser Valley.
- Two years after the homestead was built a stagecoach stop and post office were added to provide services to those passing through on the Georgetown-Hot Sulphur Springs route.
- The ranch once covered nearly 400 acres allowing access to water sources. During the late 1800’s it was very important that houses be built near water or they would have to dig a well. Access to water was also vital for irrigating land and tending to animals.
