This cache is available only in Summer and terrain is rated high but for only in a vehicle. It is located on a 4 wheel drive road over Hagerman Pass but is very easy to find with a small turn off just before emerging at the top.
We placed this cache at a location where everyone got out and slid down the glacier in the snow. It was our 25th Wedding Anniversary Encampment and we decided to take truckloads of kids and dogs who have never seen snow up the 4 wheel drive road to the glacier to "slide down on their butts"! What a GREAT time it was! ;)

This is a small camo colored plastic jar. Original contents include logbook, "Army" lanyard, a Bungeee to hold things down and 3$ as a "First-to-Find" prize to help pay for gas for coming up this far!

I think I forgot to put a pencil in the cache? BYOP

Also bring a garbage bag to use to "slide down the glacier"!

It is very safe! :)

Congratulations "HippieHouse" on the First to Find!

Took 3 kids up to this one 7,6,4 which was a bit tricky! Worth it though!

Found the log damp but otherwise OK. A beautiful cool morning with no evidence of frost or snow. No other traffic on the road. TFTC

Was looking for some caches as practice and for acclimatization, and this group looked perfect. Plan was to make my way to the tunnel and then see how I was feeling to decide whether to continue or not. Decided to go for the other virtual and starting at the tunnel seemed like a good place to do it. The climb up started a bit hard, but then got relatively easy along the part with lots of large rocks. Then however it got very hard being already three quarters of the way there trying to climb up the loose gravel with few rocks for hand and foot holds. Knowing from the bottom what it would be like to get up I would have had to decide not to do it. Became very easy to get around up there though so getting the traditional was no problem. Decided there was no way at all I was going down the way I came, so bushwhacked through the forest to make it to the road for a very easy hike but much longer hike down.

Took a little bit of time but not too bad. They really weren't kidding about needing 4 wheel drive to go up to this point though. Definitely couldn't have done it in my rental car.

Began this geocaching trip at Turquoise Lake heading up Hagerman Pass and on to Basalt. This was the first of 15 today. Dumped water out of the container, lof was dry however so all is good. TFTF

I found this one with Nickgatt and my geohound, Cuervo. We drove over Hagerman Pass from Carbondale to Leadville. The weather was a bit chilly with some wind and flurries, but considering its the middle of November, we couldn't complain. TFTC SL.

@13:29:00 #26842 Killian33 and I drove from Carbondale to Leadville to find the Virtual on Hagerman Pass. The roads were pretty clear except at the top of Hagerman. TFTC
