A fairly easy cache along US 550 between Purgatory Resort and Cascade Village.

This cache is located where one can imagine a herd of fat cattle being corralled for loading onto trucks, headed for the big cattle markets at Ft. Worth or Kansas City.

The meadows and abundant water permitted ranchers to “fatten out” their herd through the spring and summer and then ship them out.

A lot of prime beef has gone through these corrals; just hope it was all enjoyed. About 40 years ago, with the development of nearby Purgatory Ski Area and the Cascade Village condo complex, the lure of dollars for real estate development put an end to the ranching here.

The cache is an easy stop and grab, but take time to enjoy the beautiful views of the San Juan mountains.

Made this one harder than it should be. Then read logs and saw the issue with the coordinates. Then found easily. Saw snake in the taller grass. TFTC

On the way home and this one was also on the correct side of the road. Cache is 109' south of the GZ, as reported by previous cachers. It does blend in well in summer foliage. TFTC.

We were just starting to search when we were joined by hixsix. Read a few more logs while everyone was searching and then I joined in on the hunt. The coordinates are way off, but thanks to the logs, we were able to spot it. Blends in really well. Thanks for the hide and happy to meet hixsix.
