Cache Meadow Location
Chimney Rock
Majestic Chimney Rock Formation

Cache is located about 15 miles from highway 550 near Owl Creek Pass. A good (but dusty and bumpy) dirt road will take you there in any vehicle. Traffic is light. Elevation 10,000’. Park in the lot located at N38deg 09.724’ W107deg 34.098’
Area may be closed due to winter snowfall.
True Grit/Chimney Rock cache is placed in a meadow which was used to film a scene in the movie “True Grit”. The scene is Rooster Cogburn challenging Ned Pepper and his men to “be prepared to meet your maker!” Rooster puts his horse’s reins in his mouth, draws his six shooter and his trusty Winchester rifle and charges toward Ned. You know the rest of the story. (the next time you watch the movie and the scene discribed above comes into play, look for Chimney Rock in the background)

The beautiful meadow is filled with wildflowers with a background of the spectacular Chimney Rock formation. Bring your camera! The cache is not far from the parking area. The coordinates should take right to the cache. The cache container is ˝ gallon, clear plastic, with a blue lid.

Running around the Ouray-Durango area and logging a few caches along the way.
We just got home and 1st chance we've had to get our finds logged in the computer.
Found at 10:40 AM.
Cache in good condition. Great location. Much appreciate you taking us to this site.
CACHE MAINTENANCE - Removed packages of rice crackers and gum. Who thought it a good idea placing food in a cache container anywhere, and particularly in a location like this where large animals are located? Someone(s) wasn't thinking.

TFTC! What a fun hide! I loved the movie True Grit!

Could not turn right to follow County Road 8, only option was to go left which didn't lead to the meadow and Courthouse Mountain. Road had a big gate closing it off. :( Not sure if this is normal, as it is a Sunday, but disappointing.

Out in Colorado to enjoy the beautiful Fall color on an 8 day photography trip with some friends. Cool After enjoying all that Crested Butte and Marble had to offer, we made our way to Ouray to spend four days in the San Juans. After photographing a pretty awesome sunset, I made my way across the meadow to get my smiley!! Wink

TFTC!!! Smiley #6678!! Cool

Beautiful fall day for a short walk in the Rocky Mt's. I had no toy to add to this cache. Usually I carry lots of toys and then only find micros! TFTC. SL. The log was a bit damp but still usable.

Whew! This turned into quite a challenge. It seemed like a long, long drive due to all the twists and turns. Just as we get to the muddy parking area, it starts raining. We just decided to go for it anyway. Well, about a third of the way through the meadow, it starts hailing! Naturally, only had on a hoodie which is not rain or hail proof. I used our stamp and even though I was hunched over the log book, the stamp immediately smeared so I stamped it again with the same results. Those black splotches belong to GanderGoose. Did not take any time to exchange swag. Got the log book back in the nice container, stashed back in the good hiding spot, and hot footed it back to the pickup. Here is a view through the window after bolting inside. Gander had Katie Geodog and she was not amused with the rain and hail either. Thanks for the fun, high altitude adventure and placement, 2milehighwalker!

Nice walk through the meadow to a quick find. I was actually here over 10 years ago when my husband (lgf) and I found it before I had an account. Looked just like I remembered it being.
