The Department of Transportation acquired 8.58 acres of land near the town of Eckley, Yuma County, for use as a roadside rest area.  The Eckley site had a building that contained restrooms at opposite ends of the building, four dusk-to-dawn lights, one concrete pad for a mobile home, a storage shed and water-well shed. The site also had electrical service, a water well and septic vault system, and 5 covered pavilions with barbeque pits.

The area was used for many years until it was closed in 2006 after 41 years of service as a cost-cutting measure.  It was a popular stop for many traveling on US 34.  Although closed, traces of what was once there still remain and are slowly being reclaimed by nature.  We have many memories of stopping here.  There is no entrance allowed into the area.

45th of 50 finds today -- 4:00 p.m.
Out caching in the area on a cold day, visiting from San Jose. This was day 3 of my two week adventure, spent the day caching from Denver, CO to Hastings, NE. This was a quick find with nobody around. Nice hide! TN/LN/SL. Thanks for the cache!

It is so sad to see a rest area that has been abandoned. It didn't take me long to find the 'memorial' cache container; nice job and TFTC!

Found during a stay in Wray for baseball games in Yuma - we've noticed this old rest area while driving back and forth and were intrigued by it. TFTC!
