Pine Valley Ranch Park is adjacent to the Pike National Forest and the South Platte River. It includes an Observatory facility which is used primarily by Lookout Mountain Nature Center. The vision for the management of this park is to provide visitors year-round access to the richly diverse cultural and natural resources so abundant at Pine Valley Ranch Park, while protecting the park's fragile resources.

Getting There: From U.S. Highway 285 at Pine Junction, turn southeast onto Pine Valley Road (County Road 126). Continue 5.8 miles toward the town of Pine, then follow the signs to the park.

The cache itself is near the observatory. The road to the observatory is usually closed, so count on a 1-mile round trip hike with 450 foot elevation gain. The road is gravel, and would make okay mountain biking. The horse trailer lot is closest, but all of the lots have stairs to the next.

In a large tool box, with lots of stuff to start, including a nice fish lure and a hat.

Please hide and cover well when you are done.

Well, I loved walking along the river, but it was really nice up here, too! Thanks for keeping this cache going.

Headed for the hills today for a few caches with geoguru1. News to me there was an observatory here. First log signatures since Sept 2014, no trace of previous online log this year. Could be bogus. TFTC

Making a caching run into the Pine Grove area with Robespierre50 today. Steep climb and then off down the ridge. Were spoofed by another object for awhile. SL

Now that's a box! Spent more time looking for my GPS wrist-watch that I laid down (and walked away from) after taking pictures of mushrooms on the hillside. 30 some years ago the caretaker of the property opened up the observatory for a private tour. Beautiful old telescope within. TN L marble SL. TFTC.
