A small cache above tree line at a fun landmark (Full Moon Rock) on the way up Barr Trail to the summit of Pikes Peak.

The cache is a small Lock & Lock (not camouflaged) hidden in plain view on or around “Full Moon Rock”. Even if you don't have the photo (attached to this page below) you should be able to recognize full moon rock when you see it. It is easier to notice when you look downhill at the rock. I am giving this cache a difficulty 4 because it's hard to get good coordinates close to the cache.

I suspect it is very difficult to get accurate coordinates close to the cache site due to the "Full Moon Rock" itself or some other terrain feature causing interference. I took a number of readings (first on my way up to the summit of Pikes Peak and then again on the way down) and averaged these and came up with N 38° 50.702 W 105° 02.028 (my original published coordinates). Vortcity did a better job getting coordinates by taking a reading directly over the cache and avoiding the interference. I am now publishing those as the official coordinates (Thanks, Vort!) The best technique is to approach GZ to within about 30 feet and then track the rest of the way in without using the GPS since it will give misleading readings as you get closer. I am posting a photo of Full Moon Rock to make finding the cache easier.

As is my standard, the cache is hidden in plain sight but you have look at just the right angle to see the container. (no camo). There is no need to touch or move anything to find the cache.

Please note, there is no need to tread on any vegetation to find the container. The high-alpine vegetation is very sensitive so please take care not to tread on it. There is a trail leading almost directly to the cache.

Here long enough for a thorough search. On belly; on hands & knees; cheek directly against rock to look down in cracks, etc. I think whatever was left when they found it last summer is marmot bedding.. since the poops are everywhere.
All I came up with was a full, seal-unbroken quart of some sort of cherry frost Gatorade. (it was filthy and the label was shredded so probably not someone's lifeline stash)

What an amazing trek up Pikes Peak! This was my 2nd 14er, and I am very excited to check more off of the list! Each one of the geocaches we found along the way provided a much-needed break that we milked searching and drinking and eating and sitting. Thank you to all of the owners for placing these -- they were all great caches on an amazing trail!

PS -- Like Hartsdale recently, all we found was the baggie.

I have not been by this old rock in at least 42 years.

I found a chewed up baggie and log after a good search, so I put an HD on what was left and put it under a rock,

Thanks for a fun place for a hide!

We looked and looked. Climbed up, and in, and on....
Nothin'

Thanks for the hunt, this was one of only two DNF's on the mountain today.

I had the opportunity to hit the Barr trail today with a old Army buddy. We had time to pick up a few caches, fortunately this nice cache was one of them. Container and contents are in great shape. CO's sense of humor with the site selection was most appreciated. Thanks to the CO for the nice cache, fun hide, and great site selection, TFTC.
