The town of Black Forest got its name from the surrounding plains that are covered in dense forests of Ponderosa Pines. These trees grow so close to each other that they leave very little light to reach the ground, hence the name of the small town.

The area surrounding the present-day Black Forest, Colorado used to be the home of no less than five Native American tribes before the settlement of American pioneers. Firstly, it was inhabited by the legendary Ute and Comanche Indians. They settled in the area from the early 1,200 AD up to the beginning of the 19th century when the Kiowa tribe drove them out.

We have been working on reaching our 45,000 find milestone for a while now. When Covid19 hit, it put a bit of a damper on achieving that a few months ago. Once some restrictions were lifted it seemed like the sun began to shine some!! We decided to make an overnight trip south through Monument, Colorado Springs and Falcon to finally get those numbers. We were having some bad luck with some of the finds and thought we might not make the cut. We had just finished a cache at one of the cemeteries when Mrs. SDC remembered that there was a Lab Cache Adventure at a cemetery, and sure enough it was this cemetery and the first stop was 500 feet away. Had it not been for the Labs we would not have hit our number, and we actually went over by one. SL, TFTC

We did some maintenance on some caches that had numerous DNF's, broken containers or damp logs.

Thank you Driftranger for placing this cache for our enjoyment BigSmile.

For those Challenge Caches, we will upload the qualifications shortly.
