Easy find in the heart of the mining district
Cripple Creek Colorado in the heart of the early gold mining districts of Colorado. Donkeys played a key part of the backbreaking work of hard rock mining in the early days. They were used above and below ground to move the gold and silver laden ore. When the mines played out the donkeys were abandoned, sometimes left below in the mines. The ones who returned to nature reproduced and a wild herd has lived in the area ever since, coming into to town whenever they wished. Although there are not many left this is a statue honoring them. To get this cache you must: E mail me with the name of the statue, artist, and when made or post a picture of you with your GPS at the statue.

Our day to Cripple Creek for some gold mine tour and caching. We may stop off and drop some coins in a slot machine too. We so get to check out all the beautiful fall colors in the amazing Rocky Mountains.

Some may say we are crazy, but this game/hobby is one of the greatest gifts. Who doesn’t love a great scavenger hunt. Hiking, biking or driving hundreds of miles to sign our name on a piece of paper. This brings us a lifetime of joy.

Thanks for placing this cache and keeping our recreation going. SL/with PoshCacher/MagicCacher.Tftc

It is a cool story how the donkeys were used above ground and below in mines. I am glad they get to roam free now.

We drove up Pikes Peak in the morning, lunched in Woodland Park, hiked to Tarryall in the rain, drove up to Cripple Creek and did the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine Tour (which I found very interesting, though a bit expensive). Thanks for the virtual.

The wife and I are making the grand tour of Colorado this week. We made this find in Cripple Creek (where she won $50!) after checking out the petrified forest at Florissant.
