Container Type: 35mm
Code Location: Inside container
Access Info: This cache is located on USFS property.
Winter Access: Park at the winter closure gate and hike up the road. May be snow covered.

The precarious nature of the Denver, South Park & Pacific Railroad’s route over Boreas Pass is most evident at the sharp curve of Rocky Point. The Army Corps of Engineers constructed the road in the 1950s by following the historic railroad grade. However, the sharp curve at Rocky Point required too much rockwork so the road was diverted in favor of a steeper route. At the parking area for this cache, the road leaves the old railroad grade but a walking trail will take you along reproduced narrow gauge railroad tracks from which you can enjoy views of the valley below.

Follow the only paved road through Como (Boreas Pass Road/County Road 33) for approximately 4 miles, then turn right to stay on CR 33, just past Roberts Cabin. The Boreas Pass Road is passable by most 2WD vehicles and there is a parking area near the cache on the west side of the road , just past the sign for Halfway Gulch. Boreas Pass Road is generally open from June to February.

An interesting bit of track along this sharp curve of the railroad that used to come through this way.
It took a little while to find this cache but we got there in the end.
