Brittney & Jeffrey at the top.
The kids at lunch on the way to the top.

Zebulon Pike, credited with "finding" Pike's Peak, never actually made it to the top, and in fact, predicted that no one ever would. (As of 06/17/2017, this cache is 15 years old).
Of course, now you can drive to the top. The difficulty and terrain ratings are as they are simply because you need to be careful when you do go up the peak, drive carefully, and drink water as you go. It is at an altitude of 14,110 feet so you are at risk of altitude sickness.

At the coordinates you have a fantastic view. If you face in a southerly direction you'll be faced with a huge bronze plaque (bigger than you). To claim the find simply post a photo of yourself and your GPS in front of the plaque. Please don't use an old vacation photo or something, make it a new one in the spirit of Geocaching.

The plaques have now been replaced in their spot and have been completely refurbished. They are even more beautiful than they were before. They even colorized them in spots, and buffed them up very nicely.

Visiting from Delaware and excited we made it to the summit alive after our shuttle driver told us about the death of the motorcyclist this past weekend. Great views! tftv!

Got as close to GZ as I could. Saw another larger than me plaque for Mr. Pike. Donuts are good, and the summit is a geocache rich environment so honestly it was a great time. And also the view.....I couldn’t take a picture good enough...incredible.

Awesome trip back up to the top today. Last time I was up here I was 10 years old. I’m sure they are the same rocks after 42 years! Stopped for a picture and to find a traditional cache nearby before getting down to a more comfortable level for this flatlander. Thanks for keeping this old cache alive and kicking.

Our family is on vacation in Colorado, and a visit to Pikes Peak was on our list. I was glad to see a few caches at the summit!

They area is undergoing a major renovation, which will include a new summit building. Large areas are fenced off and there is construction equipment around. Parking is extremely limited, so we are glad we took a shuttle up from the Devil's Playground. However, our van driver told us that today was the last day for the shuttles, so after today you're on your own to get to the summit. It should be very challenging given the limited space up there.

This was the first cache... you can't miss it, and of course you need a photo. After a family photo I had a person take a picture of me with my GPSr in front of the summit sign.

Many thanks for providing a virtual at this special place!

Our second big trip this year. This time more mid country hunting for the oldest caches in the states. Our trip started in Kansas City, MO and continued through Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, the most NW corner of Texas, New Mexico to culminate in Colorado. It rained all day first three days but that did not stop us to accomplish our goals and some. Colorado Springs welcomed us with the snow and below freezing temperatures. But the hunt must go on... Maggie :) and I enjoyed this beautiful country, the scenery, the animals, the food and friendly people.

We have been in the area four days however the weather was not on our side until today. We called this morning the highway was only open to mile 13, afternoon recording said mile 16 so we decided to go for it. As we got to the mile 16 turn off I overheard someone say that it was open all the way to the top. So to the top we went. Amazing experience. Construction in the area did not allow us to get closer to the spot.

What an amazing trip up the Mtn. We had a blast up top. The construction did not allow us to get a picture of the needed item. Picture sent. Thank you

On a Fall trip through Colorado doing some caching and seeing the sites. A beautiful scenic drive through Rocky Mountain National Park. Visiting the downtown areas of Boulder, Denver, Castle Rock and Colorado Springs to name a few. We enjoyed a beautiful hike on the Barr trail at the Summit of Pikes Peak. It was a wonderful trip with quite a bit of caching thrown in along the way.
We arrived at the entrance this morning and were second in line. When the ranger came by to talk with us they recommended we go straight to the top as there was an 80% chance of snow. We took her advice. We had sun on the way up and during our hike then the clouds rolled in and we endured snow, hail, sleet and rain on the way down. This made for an interesting day of caching with all the stops, but we survived and had fun.

On 9/3/18 it looked like this cache was enclosed by a fence and did not provide access to find it. we attended the event and found the other caches on the summit. CO should check if the memorial plaque is still there. We were told a new summit building is to be constructed.

Kachow!! Here visiting from Yorktown VA and taking time to travel up to Pike's Peak and some geocaching along the way.
Outstanding location for a cache!! But construction barriers around the cache prevented me from getting close enough to cache to get a pic. Here is a pic just a few feet away.
TFTC and making geocaching in Colorado an awesome time! Smile

Got close due to construction! What a blast! Thanks

Spent the morning at the lakes on the way up. Beamer62 kicked my butt there so we headed on up to the top of the Peak. We got there just before a big cloud moved in. It was pretty cool and cold to have the cloud swirling around you. The top is a mess with construction so we snapped a pick at the back side of the visitors center. Hope this will do. We had a blast at the top!!! Thanks for the VC and thanks for the smiley!

I thought photos were no longer allowed as a requirement for logging a cache, but I guess this one got grandfathered in. Either way, this is a great location for a virtual and I am happy to get to log one for this spot. Big view all around. Certainly can notice that it is harder to breathe if you do not take your time to move around and let your body adapt a little. We headed back down before headaches set in but still stayed a while to just enjoy the location. It is a great place to wrap up our summer break travels before heading back home and getting back into the daily grind of being a teacher! Ha ha! Thank you for the virtual cache and the smiles on our map and our faces.

Happy Caching!
