This cache is of moderate difficulty and is located in the Rocky Mountains on the Western Slope of the Continental Divide. Somewhat challenging, but worth the effort.
In the latter part of the 1800's the Colorado Midland Railroad Company successfully established the first standard-guage passenger and freight railroad service through the Continental Divide, thus serving both the Eastern and Western Slopes. This cache is located at 10,386 feet at the site of a work village for Chinese laborers who probably helped construct part of the Hagerman Tunnel which passed through the Continental Divide near Hagerman Pass. The cache contains a pen, a notebook, a New Orleans Madri Gras cup (Rex Organization), a Hard Rock Cafe cup, an American Flag, a Troon North golf divot tool, a knife sharpener, a metal part from a Colorado Midland train wreck, and a Colorado Midland track tie stake.

Began this geocaching trip at Turquoise Lake heading up Hagerman Pass and on to Basalt. Lots of blank areas on log signed out of sequence to save log space.

What a climb to get there, but worth it. Could not figure out how they came and went from the high ridge

We are from Leadville and must have driven by this site a hundred times over the years never knowing a thing about it. What a cool place to visit on color sunday. We wandered through the trees and counted eight old cabins/tent dwellings scattered on the bench above the railroad grade. This is very interesting history. We took pictures and will upload them when we get a chance. SL Left LED flashlight. thanks for the fun!Smile

TFTC for this awesome hide. I didn't sign the log sequentially by date as people have wasted so much space on paper. This cache was in good condition even though it has been over 1 yr from the previous find. Terrain difficulty was definitely a "4".

We went up during the first snow of the year. There was about 5-6 inches of snow and it was still coming down. What a cool place. We have a place up in that area and have been looking for the "Chinatown" for months and not able to find it then I saw there was a geocash there and it helped us find the place. The cache is in good condition and I suppose will be left alone until next summer. Great place to put it! Thanks!

I replaced this cache with a stainless steel water bottle and log. Very cool location on one of the most amazing roads in Colorado. Vort.
